Bank Holiday Monday saw the traditional May Queen Festival fill the village of Slaidburn, quite literally, with asplendid procession from St Andrew’s Church led by the Slaidburn Silver Band.

The musicians were followed by the Rev. George Darby, the retiring May Queen Millie' Alpe and the new May Queen Xanthe Sherrington with their retinues and many, many vil­ lagers from Slaidburn, Dun- sop Bridge, Newton, Tosside and Lane Ends. Beforehand in church, all

children have- they then went on to enter the many sports races from running to wheel­ barrow to three legged races.
