Ossie Hopkins, former chief executive of Ribble Valley Council, has turned his hand to novel writing. His debut book “Chalk for Cheese” got a civic send-off when the new Mayor of Ribble Valley, Coun. Bridget Hilton, carried out the of ficial launch at the Higher Buck, Waddington. His story about a privileged man and a working class woman growing up separately before they meet, was based on a real-life couple.

Terry Braithwaite brought a glittering managerial career to an apt close, as Rimington claimed their fourth-sucessive Craven Cup. The villagers beat Skipton LMS 4-0 to win the trophy for the 10th time under Braithwaite’s 15-year reign - their 25 th piece of silverware in that time. The villagers started well and took the lead on 12 minutes, then kept up the pressure and gave LMS little chance to fight back.

Nine-year-old Katie Powl is rocking a chic bob-all the while knowing that some oth er little girl out there is enjoy ing her previous long locks.

Earlier this month, Katie, who lives in Tosside, held a Table Top Sale at Wigglesworh Com munity Hall, which raised £207 for “Jack’s Journey”. Ka tie attends Rathmell Primary School with six-year-old Jack. At 20 months, Jack was di

agnosed with a brain tumour and had to undergo extensive treatment. In 2012 he was di agnosed for a second time. However, he is currently do ing really well. Not content with raising

money at the Table Top Sale, Katie decided to go that ex tra length and have her long hair cut to donate to the Lit tle Princess Trust. With spon sorship on the day and money

received onjustgiving.com/Ka- tie-Powl, Katiehas so far raised £370. This will pay for a wig to bemadeforachild undergoing treatment for cancer. Her proud mum, Rose, said:

“Since joining Little Voices classes last year at Clitheroe, Katie’s confidence has soared. “As her mum, watching her

do this, it brings tears to my eyes as I am extremely proud to see how she is growing into a selfless young lady. 1 have had so many people tell me what a treasure she is and that her at titude is older than her years. When she was having her cut, people were saying well done to Katie. Her response was “I don’t want any ‘well done’ I’m only having my hair cut. I just hope it can be of use to anoth er boy or girl.” Katie would like to thank Jack, James and Jen Lambert. Charged with threat to kill ill V 1' The final frontier as Mayor and friends step out lH

Friends and supportersjoined Coun. Michael Ranson and his wife Janette on the last of their boundary walks as May or and Mayoress of the Ribble Valley. They set off from Spring Wood picnic site, Whalley, for a five-mile walk to conclude the series of 20 walks that have covered the go-mile boundary of the Ribble Valley. The walks have been sponsored, and have contributed to the mayoress’s charity fund, which has raised about £12,500 during their year of office for Ribble Valley Cross roads Care and Ribble Valley Homestart. The idea of the walks was inspired by the ancient tradition of “beating the bounds”

Coun. Ranson said: “My predecessor as Mayorjumped out of apian at 10,000 feet for charity, but I wasn’t up for some thing like that. I enjoy walking, and the Ribble Valley is the best place to walk.” The walks were devised by Ribble Valley Borough Council’s health development officer, Barrie Williams, and began last June “Some people have joined us for one walk, andsomefor two or three. The Mayor’s Secretary, Olwen Heap, has been on every walk, and my wife only missed one with a bad back. “We’ve only had rain on two of our walks, but we just car ried on and got wet. It’s been great fun.”

Aaron Ronald Hunt (26), of Harwood Street, Darwen, was sent to Preston Crown Court to stand trial when he appeared before Blackburn magistrates and pleaded not guilty to as saulting Ebony Bentham causing her actual bodily harm and making a threat to kill her. Hunt was granted on condition that he does not enter Billington where Miss Bentham lives, but prosecutor Catherine Allan lodged an appeal against the decision and Hunt will remain in custody until the appeal is heard by ajudge.

Wake up don't fake up!

Police are warning residents in Clitheroe to avoid buying counterfeit goods online. A police spokesman said: “Fake electrical beauty goods, such as hair straighteners can overheat and catch fire, potentially burning hair, skin and scalp as well as putting your home and life at risk. Fake beauty products have been known to contain dangerous levels of arsenic and mercury. By purchasing fake goods online you are also running the risk of your financial and personal details being used for other fraudulent scams, as well as exposing your computer to viruses.”
