Gift wrapping One thing we all have to
do from time to time is wrap a present for someone. Some people have a real talent for gift wrapping and Elaine Cuzneris oneof them. Elaine, the September speaker at Downham Wl, explained that gift wrapping was “a hobby that got out of hand”. • Elaine’s talk, “Gift Wrapping with a Difference”, was lively, extremely amusing and gave members excellent tips and imaginative ideas on how to improve gift wrapping skills. It was a very enjoyable talk and the members came away with many good ideas. WI members are looking
forward to the autumn council meeting, on Wednesday October 22nd at King George’s Hall, Blackburn. Other forth coming events and trips are: “Art in the Park”, a day trip to Yorkshire Sculpture Park; “Making Willowltemsfor Christmas” a course at Hurst Green and Grindleton; Mak ing Christmas Cards, a course at Leyland; Lancashire Day on November 27th at Parbold Vil lage Hall; Bingo Night with a Christmas Theme, December 1st, Downham Village Hall. Billy’s band Around 70 people packed into Gisburn Festival Hall last
Friday for a great night of mu sic from Wigan-based band Billy and the Temperamen- tals. The event was organised by the Festival Hall Committee to provide a social evening for local people but also to raise funds for the upkeep of the hall. Almost £700 profit was made and this will be used to improve facilities at the hall.
Farmers'market The monthly Gisburn
Farmers’ Market will be held
this Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm at the Festival Hall, Burnley Road. There will be the usual great range oflocal produce, gifts and crafts on

Harvest Festival Pupils ofthe Primary
Schooljoined the congrega tion in St Ambrose Church for the Harvest Festival Service last Sunday. During the first hymn, harvest gifts and altar requisites were presented at the altar. Later the pupils gave a presentation based on the colours ofthe rainbow and the “very hungry caterpil lar”. The Harvest collection was donated to the Bishop of Blackburn’s Appeal to help the poor in Angola and Myanmar. After the service, brunch was served in the Parish Room and School Hall. The Harvest gifts were later distributed to some Grindleton residents and the Clitheroe Food Bank.
Cookery demo On Thursday October 30th

Hedgehog visit Members of hurst Green
WI were treated to a fascinat ing talk by Sue Lewis, from the Rochdale Hedgehog Hospital. Sue brought along a couple
of animal friends in the form of a barn owl and a hedgehog to enhance her talk about how she and her late husband set up this essential service. The hedgehog Sue brought was blind; a disability caused by slug pellets arid reminder to all to exercise caution when using chemicals in the garden. Members are reminded
that they can pay a deposit of £10 next meeting (Thursday
October 23rd) toward the Christmas Meal on December 11th and this will also help to spread out the cost.

each Mass. All contributions will be welcome. A mini raffle has been organised with tick ets on sale before Mass, and the draw will be made at the end of Mass. Proceeds will go to the CAFOD Harvest appeal.

10 am and drive to summit of Waddington Fell (15 minutes). Park next to the cattle grid. Route: Waddington Fell,
