tember was the big day when I would go off on my first sky dive from 13,000 feet. We had been told to be
at the HQ for 0745 hrs, and I was there with my mate Dave Hurst who kindly offered to do the driving. In return I would take Dav

office to complete my paper- ■ work then it was off to the can teen for breakfast, after which I started the first part of my training, collecting all my gear then learning how to get into it and making sure everything was fitted correctly. ~ When you’re falling at 120 mph and the parachute opens,
all the straps pull tight. Those between your legs need to be fitted correctly otherwise you will end in tears! My allot ted 't im e was

said: “No way. I can’t wait to go.”
My partner told me later
that he had never see anyone socool.
Once we got to the required
height, the door was opened then we shuffled forward un til my legs were outside the plane. The green “go” light come
on then within seconds I was falling, spreading my arms like a pair of eagle’s wings and
putting my thumbs up for the camera.. As we fell, I made out I was
swimminganddoing other sil ly things. It was so exhilarating Ididn’twantittoend. . Suddenly there was a big whoosh as the parachute
opened then I watched my cameraman continue earth wards like a stone. I was then instructed how
to work the toggles to bring us down on the target zone. We landed without a bump;
what I would call a very soft landing. It was one of thebest things
I have done and I am now seri ously thinking of doing the full course and going on my own. After all the excitement I
waited around for about 30 minutes to collect a DVD and some still pics before head ing off to Llanthomas Fishery near Hay on Wye.- The link for readers

Residents warned over tax band offer
Ribble Valley residents are be ing warned about a company offering to get their council
tax band lowered for a fee. The company has been
cold calling in Ribble Valley offering to save householders cash on their council tax, but residents can get their council tax rebanded for free, Ribble Valley Borough Council has pointed out. The council’s head of rev
enues and benefits, Mark Edmondson, said: “People believe the company might be working on behalf of the council, or the Valuation Of fice Agency, but this is not so.
“We have been told the
company is charging an up front fee, followed by a suc cess fee based on any saving achieved, but council tax payers can have their council tax band reviewed for free by the Valuation Office Agency. If people think their house is in the wrong council tax band, they should contact the Valuation Office Agency themselves. They don’t need a company to do it for them.” If you think your council
tax banding is wrong, phone the Valuation Office Agen cy’s Preston office on 03000 501501.
