Research into sudden adult death syndrome is being fundedbyacharitysetupin memory ofaformerClitheroe Royal Grammar School (CRGS) pupil who died in the Far East while competing in atriathlon.
Daniel Bagshaw (inset), who would have celebrated his 29th birthday today (Thurs day), was just 27 when he col lapsed near the finish line of the International Triathlon. Union Asian Cup in Lantau, Hong Kong, in October 2012. He had completed the
swimming and cycling and was at the end of the run when he collapsed. Following his sudden death Daniel’s fam ily set up a charity - the Dan iel Bagshaw Memorial Trust
(
danstrust.org). A lasting leg acy to Daniel, funds raised for the Trust are used to sponsors research project at the Imperi al College London into sudden adult death syndrome. The youngest son of Mr
and Mrs Peter and Shelagh Bagshaw, who ran a fish and chip shop in Accrington for 25 years before moving to Riv- erlea Gardens, Clitheroe, in

Naisbitt to realise his dream to swim for Great Britain at the 2020 Paralympics. Ethan, of Accrington, who had his leg amputated at three days old and suffers a catalogue of other medical problems, has a talent forswimmingandfunds raised forDaniel’sTrustwillhelpsup- port Ethan in his training. Daniel, whose nickname
was “Baggy”, was much loved and well respected by his fel low students and teachers at CRGS. He went on to study politics, philosophy and economics at Oxford University before se curing a post with in ternational law firm Linklaters, complet ing his training at the firm’sHongKongoffice
and, once qualified, tak ing up the position of an a s s o c ia te co rp o ra te lawyer.

An 18-year-old man ap peared before Burnley Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with sex ual assault ofa 14-year-old girl.
Dylan Mawdsley (18), no fixed address, is charged
with sexual assault on a fe male contrary to the Sex ual Offences Act 2003. He was remanded in custody and will appear at Burnley Crown Court on Thursday, October 30th.
