Boho Chic are proud to announce the opening of their ladies fashion boutique. The shop, situated on New Market Street in Clitheroe in what used to be the pet shop near the market, specialises in Fairtrade clothing and stocks brands such , as Nomads and Gringo and also sells a wide range of other accessories, Fairtrade handbags and jewellery.
Director Helen Smith has put her background as an acclaimed artist to good use in bringing about a stylish, classy feel to the shop. In keeping with the ethical vision for the business many of the materials used to fit it out are reclaimed and, as Helen believes, “really enhance the feel of the building to create the bohemian look I was aiming for”.
Helen, who has lived in Clitheroe for most of her life, gained a degree in Fine Art in 2011 and recently won the Open Valley Art Competition. Alongside the Fairtrade clothing Helen will also exhibit and sell some of her original paintings in addition to some items of up-cycled shabby- chic furniture that she renovates herself.

Before starting a family Helen did a lot of travelling and this raised her awareness of the plight facing workers and producers in some countries, therefore the decision to stock Fairtrade clothing was an obvious one. As Helen puts it “I know that there are a lot of ladies out there who think the same as I do and have the same beliefs, which is one of the reasons I went

down the Fairtrade route”. She is also keen to point out that the Fairtrade labels on offer at Boho Chic give a unique and stylish bohemian look that you can’t find in many shops.
In keeping with Clitheroe’s tradition as a Fairtrade town Helen is really keen to develop links with other organisations that promote Fairtrade. In the future she also aims to offer her services to schools
in.the Ribble Valley to help educate children about the issues surrounding the production of goods that many, people take for granted, such as clothing and food, but moreover about how buying from Fairtrade sources can make such a difference to the communities in some countries.
Boho Chic’s second weekend of trading coincides with the Clitheroe Food Festival. This Saturday representatives of Boho Chic will be handing out fliers in Clitheroe entitling the bearer to 10% off any garment in store that day, so make sure you get down early so that you don’t miss out on a bargain. However, if you are unable to make it this weekend then feel free to pop in another time. Also don’t forget to friend them on Facebook by searching for “Boho Chic Clitheroe” to receive information on all the latest lines and special offers.
