Go alition spending review gives leaders plenty to ponder
more detailed impact on our budgets becomes clear. “We welcome the announcement
that the ring-fencing of government grants will end next April, which will give us more choice in where we fo cus our resources. “As a county council we are al
ways looking at ways to improve the way we provide services and we will consult with residents on our propos als as they emerge over the coming weeks and months.” And it is not just councils tighten
ing their belts.
, Thechairman of Lancashire Police Authority, Coun. Malcolm Doherty said the Comprehensive Spending Review had provided an indication of the cuts in funding but, as yet, no detail has been given for individual police authorities and forces. He added: “The cuts announced.
TR
today were at government depart ment level and, while the chancellor said that the settlement he proposed today will see overall police spending falling by 4% eacLyear, we do not know what this will mean for Lanca shire. “These figures are in line with the
projections that we have been work ing on with the constabulary, but we will have to wait until December, when the police grant is announced, to discover exactly how this will im pact on our own budget - and how the Home Office intends to impose the reductions. ; ■ “What we do know is that these are
incredibly difficult times, with some very difficult decisions on the hori zon. This unprecedented financial situation means that there will inevi tably be changes to the ways in which policing is delivered in Lancashire.”
