they wowed the crowds with an eclectic mix of tracks.
Donations made on the night will
be forwarded to the charities Help for Heroes, East Lancashire Hospice and the Mayor of Clitheroe's Welfare Fund in due course, while £1,000 made from the sale of wristbands will go towards supporting the 1st Battalion of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment. Meanwhile, on the Saturday evening,
similar large crowds flocked to the 11th annual "Last Night of the Proms" con-
cert, which was alsifstaged on the castle bandstand. Approximately I,|00 prom-goers
entered into the spijit of the evening, waving Union Jack ags and donning Union Jackhatsto pieces performedb

local composer and arranger Ernest Tomlinson was featured in an overture based on well-known English melodies, along with music by Edward Elgar, Len non and McCartney and Ron Goodwin, to name just a few. The bandstand and surrounding grass
verges were awash with music lovers young and old, some of whom enjoyed picnics as they sang along to patriotic classics or lit large Chinese lanterns when darkness fell. Some revellers even ventured to the
top of the Castle Keep to enjoy a birds- eye view, while Ribble Valley MP and Deputy Speaker of the House of Com mons Nigel Evans also got into the swing of things dancing and mingling with the crowd throughout. All donations made during this event
will be forwarded to the Clitheroe May or's Welfare Fund. • The Valley magazine is indebted to
