Best results ever for camera club

AS Ribblesdale-Camera Club looks forwarri to its winter pro gramme with an opening supper at the Aspinall Arms, Mitton, on September 7th only now can the best-kept secret of the summer be told. Tlie Inter-Club Photographic Al

liance consists of 17 camera clubs from all over East Lancashire, North Manchester and j’

Yorkshire. Its aiinual photographic com

ust into

petition is a team game, with clubs entering their 30 best images di vided between colour prints, mono chrome prints and digital projected images. A club score in each class is the total of the four best marks from four different club members. Four 20s would give a total of 80 marks for the club. This year the competition was

organised by Ribblesdal'c Camera Club and the standard was excep tional, with twice as many images as last year being awarded a full 20 marks by the distinguished photo graphic judge Bob Dennis, from tlie Wirral. When the results were received

and tire team scores calculated, Ribblesdale found it had achieved an exceptional result, possibly the best ever. Its colour prints score was 68 to

give a creditable joint fifth place; the monochrome entry was better,

STUNNING: Kevin Pres ton’s shot of Tokyo’s “Rainbow Bridge” achieved a well- deserved maximum score of 20 points.

with a club score of 70 and third place; while the digital projections scored an extraordinary 77 for joint first place with Chorley. In this section, two 20s, one 19

and one 17 were awarded to the local club, including both first and second places. However no an nouncement could be made until the secretary of the Alliance had checked the mathematics! Individual high scores in the

Colour Prints were 18 for Denis Kendal’s “Downtown with the Beckhams”; in the Monochrome Graham Dudley’s “Frozen Moor ings” (20/commended) and 18 for Stewart Clark’s “Speed”, while in the Digital Projections Kevin Pres-

ton’s “Rainbow Bridge” (repro duced here) received 20/second place; Steuart Kellington’s “Nepal Girl” 19/commended, while Dean Weaver’s exquisite record picture of “East Marion Church Window” received a vital 18 marks. By a quirk of the rules, Chor

ley tied with a third place (20) and three 19s, none of which were com mended, but showing the strength in depth of East Lancashire’s “form club” of the moment.
