very brave and never once ■ complained about his illness.^ He was diagnosed with bow-' el cancer in 2008, but prior to this he suffered from pain,: discomfort and tiredness.

He ignored the symptoms because he thought he was too young to be diagnosed ;
- with cancer. ■ “During his treatment,
which included 16 months of intense chemotherapy, he never complained once. He remained very brave, posi-
. live and was determined to beat the condition. There
■ was no self-pity and he just wanted to get back to his normal self. “In March, this year he
had finished his treatment and looked really well. He thought that the'cancer was under control, but it returned and this time the doctors said chemotherapy was not an option.” •; Andrew moved to Clit heroe two years ago and ac cording to Maria, he loved evetything about the market town: “He loved the shops, the close-knit community and the town itself,” she ex plained. He seemed happier than I had ever seen him.” ■ She added: “Andrew was
' a free spirit. He was wise beyond his years and a very ‘ sensible young man.' He was
' also outspoken and was very opinionated. He was very : close to his sister, Rachael-

; - Maria went on to pay
tribute to the outstanding efforts o f Andrew’s GP, Dr Jennifer Fairwood, and the team of district nurses at the Castle Medical Group, Clit heroe, who went out of their way to care for Andrew at home: “I cannot thank and praise them enough. They were fantastic in caring for Andrew.” She added: “Many young
people may have symptoms of bowel cancer, but choose to ignore them because they are too shy to talk about them. I urge young men and women out there to recog nise the early signs of the. disease, overcome their em barrassment and see their GP.”
■ . A private cremation serv ice was held for Andrew on: Friday. : Maria added: “Andrew
will always be missed by all who knew him. He was full of integrity and was very loyal to his family. I always knew that if I needed to rely on anyone, it would be An-' drew because he never let youdown.” . .
