MEDICAL P RO F E S S IO N A LS URGENTLY NEEDED

Countries such as Australia, New Zealand, America and Canada are actively encouraging skilled workers to migrate. If you work in a medical profession you may be exactly the type of person they are looking for.

ing Kashif Siddique with the capture of Read skipper Chris Holt as professional on a two-year deal.

Holt ends his long affiliation with the club after spending 13

years at Whalley Road in two spells, which was split with a two- year stay at Colne in the Lancashire League.

Holt said: “I’m delighted now it’s a done deal. I’m chuffed to

bits. I feel a little bit of pressure in replacing Kashif but I’ve got to focus on what I’m doing - 1 think I will give them something fresh. I’ve been at Read since I was six so I’m definitely going to miss the place. I’ve told the lads and they’ve all been very sup portive and they seemed happy for me. “It was a difficult decision because Read will be challenging

again but I couldn’t turn this down. It was an honour to be asked and I’ve always wanted to play as a professional ever since I started playing so it was a no brainer really.” Meanwhile, the season came to a wet conclusion for many of

the region’s teams. Champions Clitheroe saw their final day fixture against

bottom side Salesbury fall victim to the inclement weather con ditions, Read’s survived but they were beaten at home by Great Harwood, Whalley’s game against Baxenden was abandoned and Cherry Tree were triumphant over Ribblesdale Wanderers. That ultimately meant James Watson’s Salesbury were

cemented to bottom spot in their debut season in the division, Whalley ended their campaign fifth from bottom, while Ian Britcliffe’s Ribblesdale finished in the bottom four despite flirt ing with the Lancashire Cup spots just weeks ago. Elsewhere, Chatburn ended their Craven and District League

Division Two campaign with an 81-run victory over Riddlesden. Neil Cartledge inspired the hosts with an unbeaten 60 and he

was capably accompanied by good knocks from skipper David Lakin (40), Mark Braithwaite (34) and Chris Waddington (28 not out) as the home side reached a 198-7 total. In reply, Rishabh Jain smashed 58 as he opened bat for the

visitors but strong bowling performances from Andy Lambert, who took two wickets from two balls, Steve Bowker (2-40) and Waddington (1-8) proved too strong. And the second team ended the season with a six wicket vic

tory over Wilsden.
