O’ Groats

Testing le jo g ’ ride boosts funds for two good causes

A CYCLIST from Read has raised £1,755 for Pendleside H o s p i c e a f t e r pedalling the length and breadth of the country in memory of

his wife. Mr Peter Cocker (60)

was joined by his friend Mr Michael Ormond (61) for the epic bike ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats as a tribute to wife Gillian,

who died o f breast cancer in March last year. A further £700 was

also donated on Mr Cocker’s behalf by the Santander Bank. Mr Ormond raised

£2,450 for Leukaemia a n d L ym p h om a Research in memory of his sister and father, who both died from leukaemia. The route took the pair through England,

Wales and Scotland along 1,050 miles o f roads, tracks and trails, which took them 17 days to complete. At about the halhvay

stage, in Cheshire and Lancashire, they were greeted by friends and family at Bollington, Withington, Garstang and Sizergh, which lifted their morale for the second half of the testing trip. During the ride, their

supporters were kept up to date with the journey and entertained by Mr Cocker who wrote a daily blog. Mr Cocke r said

that Scotland was the major highlight of their

journey, “providing a backdrop of unequalled beauty”. He presented the

fund-raising cheque to hospice representatives at the Padiham branch of Santander.
