Still time to have on housing
RESIDENTS in Ribble 'Valley are being given longer to have their say on possible future housing sites in
the borough. Ribble Valley Borough Council’s plan
ning department is preparing a plan, called a Local Development Framework, which is a suite,of themed documents outlining the future development in the borough, including houses, jobs, shops, services, the countryside and transport. One of the documents, the Strategic
Housing Land Availability Assessment, looks a t potential housing land and where new development might take place. The document features 300 poten tial sites, 175 of which are suitable for development in principle. The report also outlines-when the 175 sites might be ready for development, either within five years, six to 10 years or 11 to 15 years. . The council has consulted widely on
the SHLAA, including writing to J,400 individuals, parish and town councils, businesses, estate agents and communi ty groups but, given the high level of interest, the deadline for responses has been extended by a fortnight to Friday, June 5th. Coun. Richard Sherras, chair-. man of the borough council’s planning and development committee, said: “There’ has been a lot of interest in the report and for that reason we are giving people longer to respond. ' “i t is important to note that the inclu- •
sion of a site in the report does not indi cate th a t planning permission will be granted for new housing, nor does it- actually allocate the land for housing. Inclusion in the report only highlights that'there is potential for housing on a- site at some point in the future. We look forward to receiving further comment from the community on this important
document.” The SHLAA document can be viewed

about the SHLAA prompted local coun cillors Joyce Holgate and Terry Hill to hold a public meeting to try. to explain the process. Coun. Holgate said: “So many people are concerned about how the process works and why the council has had to do it that we decided to hold a public meeting.”
