turbocharger and variable valve tim ing technology, as well as a number of, light alloy components designed to r^uceweight. In the VXR, however, the power
output is upped by 64 b.h.p. to 320 b.h.p. and that makes a standstill to 60
m.p.h. sprint of 5.8 secs a real possibil ity.
Like the premium German rivals
that Vauxhall is gunning for with this ; flagship insignia, the top speed is lim- • ited to 155 m.p.h. I t rides 10mm lower than standard models, but it is visual ly edged closer still to terra firma by the deep bumpers and side skits that boarder its lower extremities. The dis tinctive chrome ringed vertical air- intakes at the front are echoed by vast twin exhausts built into the bodywork. a t the rear. ■ The standard wheels are 19in. items, but these can he upgraded to • 20in. ones via the options list and pok ing through the spokes are the colour- coded callipers of the Brerabo high • performance braking system. ■.
