Valley people enjoyed safer Bonfire Night
AFTER a Bonfire Night with half of last year’s call-out figures to bonfire and fire work incidents, Lancashire’s firefighters are thanking local people for following their Bright Sparx firework and bonfire safety campaign advice. The Lanc^hire Fire and Rescue Ser
v ice ’s Fire Control centre in Preston, where all 999 calls are dealt with, record ed exceptionally low figures of 89 incidents where bonfires had got out of control, or where fireworks had started fires, com pared to 173 such calls last year. Lancashire’s Chief Fire Officer, Peter
Holland, commented: “ I t ’s extremely gratifying to have had our bonfire and fire work safety campaign work so well. “Working together on promoting the
‘Bright Sparx’ campaign well in advance of Bonfire Night, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, Lancashire Constabulary, local authorities and the media have ensured that our advice to enjoy Bonfire Night at an officially-sanctioned bonfire and firework display has got across better than ever before. The spectacle and scale of the bonfire and firework events that we have been encouraging people to attend has, as ever, been magnificent.” • On Saturday night, November 7th,
there were just 4'7 call-outs to bonfire/fire- work-related incidents, conpared to 67 in 2008. On Sunday night there were just 13 call-outs across the county, compared to 34 last year.
