Festive gifts At the annual meet ing of Balderstone and District WI, Mrs Joan Woolm- ington was re-elect ed president. Other officers elected were: Mrs Kathleen Rigby (treasurer), and Mrs Jean Simm (secretary).

Charity Bolton-by-Bowland CB Primary School will be supporting Children in Need tomorrow in a French style. The pupils, staff and the B-by-Buddies tod- dler/carer group will go to school dressed in a French theme and pay for the priv- ilege. The snacks offered at breaktime will be pains an chocolat, croissants and hot chocolate. The children will also be having a bistro lunch with French food.
Service The guest speaker on Sunday at the serv ice in Billington Community Church will be Mr Norman Pearson. The follow ing week on the first Advent Sunday the preacher will be the Rev. Don Johnson. Billington Communi ty Church’s carol service this year will be held on the evening of Wednes day, December 16th, and an open invita tion is given to all who wish to share in this event. Proceeds will go to support local community worthy causes.
Cafe bar Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circum stances, Billington Community Cafe Bar will be closed this Saturday. Hope fully it will be open the following Satur day.

At the meeting of Bolland Garden Club, garden design er Chris Myers was welcomed. His first design, based on the canal at Gargrave, was at the NEC in 2004" where he received both a gold medal and “Best In Show”. This prompted a change in career from gar dener to full-time garden designer. ■

Bonfire Bonfire night was a great occasion at The Manor House, Chatbum. The resi dents, day care 'visi tors, relatives and friends joined in the fun watching fire works while drink ing mulled wine. Residents had made treacle toffee and fudge in their baking activity. A Guy Fawkes had also been made by the residents.

Mothers’ Union were treated to a peep into the past when Mr Tony Goodbody gave a fascinating screen presentation of “Old Clitheroe in Post cards”. He explained how the postcard was first introduced on the Continent and spread in popularity to this country -with the introduction of the penny post in ■Victorian times. Local firms printed cards . depicting important events, coronation celebra tions, civic and church parades, the famous torchlight processions and views of Clitheroe, many now greatly altered or vanished forever.

Plans were made for the November walk and names were taken for the Christ mas ramble which will be on Thursday, December 3rd start ing at 11-30 a.m. culminating with a festive lunch at The Country Kitchen, Waddington. Non walkers are also wel- come and should meet at the cafe for 12-45 p.m.
Two teams of four members were formed to take part in the LFWI fun quiz in January and p r e l i m i n a r y arrangements were made for the WI contribution to the ■village carol evening on ’Tuesday, Decem ber 15th.

Tricks ’n’ spots A welcome hot supper of pie and peas was appreciated by patrons of the monthly whist and domino drive, organised by Rim ington Memorial Institute manage ment committee. MCs were Mrs E. Hartley and Mrs E. Jackson who also presented the prizes.

Chester There is to be a Christmas shopping trip to Chester from Sabden on Saturday, December 5th, and there are still places available on the bus. There is a chance to shop in this popular city and visit the Christmas markets. The coach ■will leave Sabden at 9-30 a.m. and return from Chester a t 4 p.m. The cost is £11. Admission is £5 adults and £2-50 children, which includes all the bingo tickets needed and light refresh ments. There will be lots of prizes and a raffle. Proceeds are for St Mary's Hall refurbishment fund and you can pay on the door.
St Nicholas The annual Christ mas fair is on Satur- day, November 28th, in the church hall from 11 a.m. There are lots of stalls and home made lunches will be served.
Bingo Eyes down for a spe cial Christmas fam ily bingo in St Mary’s Hall on Wednesday, Decem ber 2nd, a t 7-15 p.m.
A quiz on musical shows was won by village correspon dent Dee Ellis and many of those pres ent went home with prizes from the suc cessful raffle.
The show'presented by Ron Harrison, included excerpts from the village’s recent “Comedy Concert” as well as films on a variety of topics, the highlight of which was the “Magnificent Alps” by David Crossley.
Garden club A special Christmas meeting will be held by Simonstone Gar den Club on Thurs day, Novewmber 26th, at 7-30 p.m. in the old school hall when Beverley and friends will cele brate

Dancing A pleasant evening was spent dancing in Tosside Commu nity Hall to music played by Elizabeth Harrison.
