Spooky party Residents and visitors at Riverside Care Centre, Sawley, enjoyed a spooky Hallowe’en party with staff and rela­ tives dressing up as witches, spiders and werewolves. The prize for the best dressed witch went to Isobel Hatherell. A spooky buffet tea with punch and pumpkin cakes was enjoyed.


Bonfire party Residents and visitors a t Riverside Care Centre enjoyed a bonfire and firework display with a meat and potato pie sup­ per, treacle toffee and toffee apples.


In need Residents and staff at Riverside Care Cen­ tre raised £75 when they dressed in yel­ low to raise money for Children in Need. Also the staff brought in baby photographs and people had to guess who was who, the residents had made Pudsey buns to sell and a scratch to match Pudsey poster. The winner received a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates.


Antiques At the annual meet­ ing of Sawley WI Mrs Jean Surrey gave a talk entitled “I Bought it at Auc­ tion.” She had plen­ ty of tales to tell about her purchases over the years. She still does not know what some of them are, and told of oth­ ers that she has seen exhibited in muse­ ums around the country.
