THIS picture of pupils at Ribblcsdalc Modern School in 1953 was brought in by Mrs Jacque­ line Pyc, (nee Birtwistle), who lives in Billing- ton. She can be seen on (he second row from the top on the extreme right, and yes she admits she looks a bit like a boy and is wearing a collar and tic for the occasion. Mrs Pyc and her friend have hopefully remem­ bered all the names, apart from two, of her fel­ low pupils. She docs, however, remember the form teacher Mr James Entwistlc who later

BROUGHT in by Mrs V. Giles, of Chatburn Park Drive, Clitheroe, this picture is of past and present pupils, with their families, on the occasi­ on of Sawley School closure in July 1975, just one year short of its 100 anniversary. There were


just nine pupils left. Sawlcy families were: Bolton, Benson, Burgess, Cradock, Furness, Giles, Haines, Harrison, Ireland, Pye, Scott, Sin­ gleton, Sutcliffe Trueman. Head teacher Mrs Margaret Dyson, can be seen with a bouquet.


a “Spotty Day”, raising funds for the charity in various ways. Callum Walmsley, secretary of the School Council, reports: “It involved everyone dressing in spotty clothes. We had a spotty bring and buy stall, and a spotty cake stall, a colouring competition and, last of all, a Children in Need scratch card game. “I t was £1 a go, the prize


was a cake with Pudsey on and a pupil called Robert Capstick won the game. “We raised £119.30 so we


did quite well and everybody in the school helped to raise the money and had a good time as well.” Pictured are some of the

REGULARS at the Royal Oak, Clitheroe held a fund­ raising night in aid of Chil­ dren in Need. Organised by landlord


and landlady Nigel and Sammie Edwards, and reg­ ulars Paul S argeant and Patricia Kennedy, the event raised an amazing total in

excess of £600, with dona­ tions and sponsorship still due to arrive. Customers were invited


to step back in time to a '70s and '80s disco in fancy dress, and special events included a sponsored chest wax of regulars Mark Sargeant, Dave Hargreaves


and Le Hardboard (done by Leanne Bond) and spon­ sored head shave by Dave Moon. The Royal Oak expressed


its thanks to all the local businesses who kindly donated prizes for the raffle. A fan ta s tic night was .enjoyed by all. (s)

Mr Thompson, who lived in Eshton Terrace as a boy, went to Sandhurst when he left school and made the Army his career.
