A DEATH-DEFYING descent by winch into Gaping Gill was the final summer meeting for members of Rib-

blesdale Camera Club. Instead of the “quick up and

down” trip favoured by most visitors to the annual winch- meet at Gaping Gill, two club members completed an under ground expedition lasting more than three hours.

Leaving the huge Main

Chamber, Jeff Cowling and Ken Geddes - both very expe rienced cavers - explored the cave through Sand Chamber and on to Stream Chamber, crossed the underground river and reached the far end of the North West Extension, a very muddy area! Less strenuous, but just as enjoyable, was The Ribblesdale

Camera Club’s Opening Buffet, held at West Bradford Village Hall to mark the beginning of the autumn and winter season. It was an outstanding suc cess and a good opportunity to

catch up with the news from existing members and to meet new people joining the club. The club’s next meeting will

be at 7-30 p.m. next Tuesday, September 25th, at West Brad

ford Village Hall, when the first of the Winter Competitions will be judged. Prospective members are

welcome to attend a couple of meetings before deciding if

they would like to join. Information about the club

can be obtained from its chair man John Bradley, on 01254 822921, or the secretary on 01200 423474.
