50 50 60 50 50 50 50 50

Clitheroe Advertiser & Times, Thursday, November 15th, 2007 23

L y lh am L a d ie s ................... 4 C l i lh e r o e ............................... 3 CLITHEROE slipped up in a tough top-of-the-table clash at Lytham between undefeat ed teams. Lytham piled on the pres

sure and won a free hit just outside the area, which saw them take a well-deserved lead. Clitheroe stayed positive,

and their pressure paid off when the Lytham keeper was rounded, and a shot from Horsfall was stopped on the line by a Lytham foot, result ing in a penalty stroke, which Horsfall slotted home. Lytham hit a purple patch,

playing the ball around and forcing Clitheroe into a num ber of mistakes, and good saves from Simpson in the Clitheroe goal kept the score level. But the pressure eventually

saw the ball bounce through the Clitheroe area before being picked up brilliantly on the reverse stick by the Lytham forward, who dragged Hough wide and hit home. Things got worse for

Clitheroe as Simpson came out to try and close down the Lytham player, who wrong footed her to make it 3-1 at half-time. Clitheroe got one back in

the second half when five minutes of early pressure put Lytham on the back foot, and a good turn from Box-Morton in the area saw her execute a brilliantly-taken reverse stick flick into the roof of the net. But Lytham went back to

the other end of the pitch and finished with a well-taken first time slap from the penal ty spot. Clitheroe stepped up their

game again, and earned a penalty corner which saw the ball bounce through a crowd ed area to Petty, who made no mistake with a clinical finish. At 4-3 Lytham used all

their experience to hold up the ball and keep possession in the comers of the pitch and play out for the win. Rachel Box was player-of-

the-match for the locals. First team members were

joined by second and third teamers for the friendly at Didsbury Northern on Sun day, which the Ribble Valley side won 5-0. Skipper Laverty scored the

first two, and that was how ' the score remained until the interval. Brunt slotted home

Clitheroe 2nds ....................1 Pendle Forest 3rds ............ 1 A CLASH between two sides pushing for promotion ended in a hard-fought draw. The ball shifted from end to

end, with both teams having half chances to take the lead, but the deadlock was eventu ally broken when a good pass ing move from Forest saw them take the lead after a good run and a well-taken goal slapped past Pye in the Clitheroe goal. Clitheroe responded bril

liantly and stepped up a level, overloading the Forest defence and causing them problems. Maskell and Guthrie

played a quick one-two, with a shot going past the Forest keeper and stopped on the goal line by a defender’s foot, giving the umpire no choice but to award a penalty stroke. Up stepped Ally Whitwell to give the keeper no chance and make the score 1-1. Clitheroe came out in the

second half and piled on the pressure from the first whis tle, but were frustrated by some excellent tackling and experienced defending. Both teams had good

chances to steal victory in the final five minutes, but the final score remained 1-1. Jessica Pye was player-of-

the-match. Clilheroe 3 r d s ...................... 1 Lancaster 5 I h s ....................1

THIS game was very even for long periods, but Clitheroe who took the lead after good work from Dewhurst and Fell. Hutchinson put pressure on

the Lancaster defence, and a brilliant ball from skipper Allen was picked up and played to the forwards, where Whitwell was on hand to fin ish with style. Lancaster fought back and

after-a couple of attempts scored to go level. Clitheroe should have won

the game on a number of occasions, hut for dogged defending and a couple of goalmouth clearances from Lancaster.
