Bowland milk sold because Asda be eco-friendly fresh
BOWLAND FRESH milk - the farmer-owned brand from a co-operative of Ribble Valley farms - is now available in 14 ASDA supermarkets in Liv erpool and Cheshire, bringing the total number of ASDA stores it supplies to 41. Proving a real hit with quality-conscious cus
tomers, Bowland Fresh milk travels a fraction of the food miles of normal milk and is fully traceable, with the farmers who supply it receiving more for their milk than they would on the wholesale mar ket. The greatest feature of the product is that con
sumers know exactly where their fresh milk comes from and that they are directly supporting the North West’s farmers and their families. All the farmers in the scheme produce their milk to the highest standards of hygiene and animal husbandry and welfare. Bowland Fresh director William Slinger siad:
“Our industry is under such pressure at the moment with the foot and mouth and bluetongue disease outbreaks severely restricting our normal farming practices. Local contracts such as this are crucial to the ongoing survival of many dairy farms in the Ribble and Hodder Valleys and the beautiful coun tryside which they help maintain. “There’s a lot going on in the milk industry at the
moment, but at least when consumers buy our milk they know that the farmer is directly benefiting. I think people understand that, particularly at the moment with a bad summer, increasing feed and other costs and supply simply not able to meet
