rjf>r- MICHAEL Bisping wants a rematch after his latest Ultimate Fighting Championship show down ended in controversial circumstances on Saturday.
The Count was granted victory over Ameri
can opponent Matt Hamill by the narrowest of split decisions at the 02 Arena in London on Saturday.
-' The five-minute, three-round UFC 75 fight,
went the full distance, and saw Bisping lose the first round by consensus from the three judges,’ but win the last two by a decision of two to one. It’s the first time Bisping has had to’rely
upon an outside decision, having successfully submitted or ko’d his opponents in his 14 previ ous cage fights. The decision hasn’t been popular with the
global following the sport commands, and Bisp- ing is more than happy to set the record
E straight: “I want a rematch as, in my view, he won the first round, and I won round two and three. Some of the fans aren’t happy with the result and feel the decision was controversial. “I don’t like to win that, no one does if that’s
what people think. I’m not scared of Matt Hamill and I’d be happy to do it all again.” He enjoyed the challenge of going the full
distance though, something he feels can only help him develop as a fighter. Bisping added: “In my previous fights I’ve
finished them all in the time frame, and that can’t always happen. “It’s important that I learn how to go all the
way. I’m glad as it makes me more mature as a fighter. You have to do it and I’ve learned a
... lot.” !i»'. Michael Bisping The fact Bisping remains undefeated
is his trump card. Having won 15 fights, including four in the UFC Octagon, is rare in the world of cage fighting. Talk of his next fight, and a possible rematch, has already started, but he has n’t heard anything concrete yet. Bisping said: “I was looking at the
Daily Star and they’ve got the rematch down for New Years Eve. They must have better contacts at the UFC than me because I haven’t been told yet, but I’ll be looking to get another fight in before the end of the year. “Whether that will be against Hamill or another fighter, I haven’t heard, but it
. will most definitely be in the States.” Bisping now has his own official web
site,
www.bisping.tv. Updated weekly, the site covers everything associated with the Clitheroe cage fighter.

Furness...............................27 Clitheroe RUFC.................. 8 THE opening fixture of the campaign was a tale of two halves for the Littlemoor outfit. The lack of any meaningful warm-up games had left the
over by half-time as they trailed 22-3, with only a penalty to show from their efforts. At least in the second half
they managed to get out of first gear. Some more purposeful driving play from the pack saw a protracted series of line-outs near the Furness line. A well-worked line-out move

. ened at the sight of the lights going out over Shaw- bridge on Tuesday night. Clitheroe’s start to the
season has been slow, with just one point from the first five league games. But a first half perform
ance against FC United had seen a return to form, until a burnt fuse compounded the co-manager’s frustra tion. Partial floodlight failure
was the result, and at 1-1, with less than 60 minutes played and a ground full of travelling fans, the referee had no other option than to abandon the game. Reynolds said: “Our sea
son hadn’t started until Tuesday night.’ Everything was going too well, and we definitely warranted some thing out of the game. “It was the first time this
season we’ve been able to play proper football, and there were loads of posi tives, but when your luck’s not in, your luck’s not in. “We changed it around,
left Will Exton out, Gary Stopforth out and moved a couple of players to the bench. I t ’s good for the squad that players are hav ing to compete hard for a place.” A rematch will mean
another trip for the large following of FC United, but Reynolds makes it clear that Clitheroe had nothing to gain from the failure. He said: "There is talk of

making a small donation to FC United’s Ground Devel opment Fund, or perhaps
. offering the rematch at a reduced price, but that is up to the committee to decide. “From a financial point
of view, it is not nice to think that someone would pull the plug to make money out of the situation as I heard some suggesting on Tuesday night.” “That’s certainly not the
case, we’re above that and it would never happen. Three points are more important to us on the pitch than the money.” However, despite this dis
appointment, the perform ance has boosted the side for Saturday’s FA Cup trip to Chorley Nissan Victory Park, and Reynolds’ fellow player-manager has been a contributing factor. Reynolds added: “We’re
going to take those 60 min utes in to Saturday at Chor ley. “Tuesday night’s side all
warrant a shot to start. Expectations are now raised, it’s a local derby and FA Cup game, and the lads can’t wait to get back in training and out on Satur day, but it’s going to be dif ficult. “Pete Smith has been
beating himself up about, whether to play himself or not, but I think we are a better side when he does. At 42 years of age he was thinking he was too old to start, but it doesn’t matter how old you are if you can offer what he can. “He certainly gives us
something fresh and he brings the best out of Craig Sargeson on the other wing. “Those two and Joel
Byrom were the best three players on the pitch. I t ’s something we had when Lennie Reid played last sea son and we’ve missed that.” Peter Collinge hip injury
and bruising to ribs and kidneys in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Newcastle Blue Star will see him side lined for a few weeks, so James Mann will continue in goal. Exton is also likely to sit
out following a recurrence of a shoulder injury in the same game, but Ryan Fish er is back to full training and could feature in the reckoning. Newcastle Blue Star ..3
Exton and Peter Collinge saw Clitheroe lose their grasp at Newcastle's Kingston Park Stadium on Saturday. Playing at the same
ground that Johnny Wilkinson runs out at for club side Newcastle Fal cons, Clitheroe suffered a similar fate to that of the injury-jinxed England rugby player. Striker Exton's recurring
shoulder problem returned, and internal and external kidney bruising to Collinge saw the goalkeeper replaced in the second half by centre back Russ Clarke, as he sought treatment at New castle General Hospital. Newcastle Blue Star, who
have recently come under the wing of the rugby club
and pay out seven times the playing budget at Clitheroe, netted their first goal on 20 minutes. A tame shot was struck
from outside the area by captain David Nicholls that took a deflection off Gregg Anderson to squeeze past Collinge and the post. The home side's second
came when sprightly left winger Ben Pringle got the better of Anthony Daniels to launch a pin-point ball into the box, which was met by a sweet strike from Dave McTiernan. Craig Sargeson had earli
er had a shot straight at the keeper, and Exton was given a plum opportunity by Paul Stansfield and Joel Byrom, only to be blocked

went close and Russ McKenna skimmed the top of the goal with a left wing cross. However, it fell to substi
tute Gary Jackson to find the back of the net with his second goal of the season. Sargeson flashed the ball
