This is a three- cylinder power plant, not normally a recipe for refinement, although in this
. case, the results on the move are quite acceptable. The rest-to-60 sprint time of 16 seconds isn’t anything to write home about but, like most diesels, this one pro vides strong mid-range acceleration. Also like most diesels, i t ’s very eco
nomical, able to record 64mpg on the combined cycle. It’s worth noting howev er, that this is only 8mpg more than the 1.1-litre petrol variant, so if you’re buy ing the CRDi based on economy consid erations alone, it’s going to take you an awful long time to get that £1,500 price premium back. And an awful lot of miles, something th at citycars traditionally don’t cover. This diesel is predictably green, emitting just 112g/km of CO2 into the atmosphere but here again, this is only a marginal improvement on the petrol version which manages 118g/km in 1.0-litre form. As befits a car with a high roofline,
