of drugs and used the high-tech Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technol ogy to deny criminals the use of the roads and reduce crime. The round-the-clock technol

ogy, which vyas launched in Clitheroe and Whalley two years ago, scans the number plates of every car entering the borough, allowing police to identify out-of-town criminals targeting the area. The pioneering system,

which checks over 10,000 vehi cles per day, has in the past helped in the recovery of stolen vehicles and has also reduced the chance of people having their cars stolen or becoming the victims of crime.

Camera club’s new year meeting

A RECENT meeting of Rib- blesdale Camera Club consisted of four parts. Firstly Jeff Cowling illustrat

ed setting up a digital slide show using a programme called - ProShow Gold. This, as the name suggests, is a professional programme, but is probably the easiest for the beginner to use at a basic level, vvith its very easy choice of timing and fade effects. After this, Steve Ashcroft

demonstrated the very much cheaper PicturestoEXE, which in professional hands is capable of superb results. Steve is now a professional photographer and he showed in detail how he pro duces his wedding videos. Start ing from a typical crowd scene at a wedding, the picture faded to black and white, paused a moment and started to gently blur to a background for framed

cameos of the key guests picked out from the crowd, throwing confetti. This was an impressive

demonstration and while not everybody may be able to pro duce these effects as quickly as Steve, the way is open for the production of much higher qual ity videos. Chairman John Bradley then

gave a mini lecture on the effect on photographs of the quality of light, Mth some exceptional pic tures. Finally, Ken Geddes gave a brief demonstration of the club’s recently-acquired batch scanner, which will allow all those treasured slide shows (hopefully to the quality of John’s) to be scanned 50 at a time, improved in Photoshop, and then made into a profession al quality digital show, as shown by Jeff and Steve!
