Barrowford, will be going head-to-head with three other girls from around the country today, battling it out to become the Face of FreshLook 2007 and securing a place on the books of international mod elling agency Premier Model Manage ment, who represent famous supermodels, such as Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer. Sarah, who studied for her A-levels at

Clitheroe after leaving AValton High School, Nelson, beat off stiff competition from 4,000 original entries, making it into the regional finals in Manchester in November where she managed to fight her way through to become one of the four finalists. She said: “I t was in the summer when

one of my friends found the competition on the Internet. We just entered for fun - we never imagined this would happen.” Today, Sarah will be setting off from St

Andrew’s, Scotland, where she has just begun her studies for an English degree, and will embark on an eight-hour train journey to London for a nine-to-five inter view. Experiencing every girl’s nightmare -

she will be judged on her looks without a trace of make-up - then her personality and ability to cut it as a top model. Tomorrow, Sarah said she will soon be

brought back to reality with a bang when she will sit the first of her exams. Although Sarah, who gained three A-

levels at Clitheroe, is experiencing an enjoyable stereotypical university life, she said she would not give up the chance to be a model for anything. She said: “I ’ve never thought of model

ling as an option before now, but if I got the chance I would definitely want to do it. My timetable’s flexible and a year out could always be possible.” Talented as well as beautiful, Sarah

enjoys singing and performing and has always been involved with local theatre groups. If this is not a career path she chooses to follow, Sarah, who completed work experience at Leader Times Newspa pers in Nelson while she was at school, said she would enjoy a career working in the media. Castle plans given airing at meeting

A PRESENTATION on the plans for Clitheroe Castle was given to the town’s Civic Society. Ribble 'Valley’s Community Develop

ment Manager Mr Chris Hughes addressed a well attending meeting. Members felt it was reassuring to learn

that a separately funded-scheme to con serve the Keep was being developed and could soon be implemented. Questionners conceded that it would be

necessary to link the buildings intended as a visitors’ centre to maximise their use for

educational and commercial purposes. However, many felt the underlying dilem ma was not being addressed. Improved access and space for displays, refreshments and shopping will mean less access and space tor people wanting to enjoy accus tomed routes between one viewpoint and another. Concern remained that the real cost of

the scheme may not be millions of pounds, but the loss of freedom to experience the true heritage that.Castle Hill represents to townspeople and visitors alike.
