A QUARTET of culinary “wun- derkinder” from Clitheroe Royal Gram­ mar School have been crowned highly commended in the finals of a Young Chef Challenge. Talented pupils Malavika Ghosh,


Evangeline Atkinson, Lucy Grime and Sam Bolton beat off stiff competition from the regions’s young chefs and wowed celebrity chef James Martin to win the highly commended title for recipe development and cookery skills. The competition was part of the Qual­


ity Standard beef mince Young Chef Challenge with their culinary creation. The free-to-enter challenge, launched


by the English Beef and Lamb Executive (EBLEX) and judged by James Martin, asked students to submit an original recipe featuring Quality Standard beef mince. In the Lancashire and Yorkshire


regional finals, held recently, the budding chefs, who also had to develop a time plan and budget, were given one hour to cook their dish. Evangeline, Sam, Malavika and Lucy

• CLITHEROE man Mark Lee Milner (27), of Waterloo Road, was made subject to community supervision for 18 months and ordered to pay £60 costs by Blackburn magistrates after pleading guilty to possessing a knife in


a public place. The court heard Milner had been drink­ ing when he became abusive to his girlfriend. She left her flat with her child, but Mil­ ner followed and she saw the handle of the knife sticking out of his pocket.
