Major cricket booster for Tim!

By Adrian Capstick

ONE of Lancashire’s most promising young cricketers has been select ed by the English Crick e t Board to receive coaching from a top spin bowler at a series of spe cial clinics. Stonyhurst College

pupil and Clitheroe CC member Tim le Breton has been chosen, along with 12 other boys aged between 12 and 16, from the North of England to attend the special ses sions, which will take place at Old Trafford and Headingley during the winter. The training will be led

by one of the country's leading spin bowling coaches, in former Lan cashire CCC off-spinner Gary Yates. I t is the 14-year-old’s

ambition to be a profes sional cricketer, and fol low in the footsteps of sporting stars like Andrew Flintoff, after he was inspired to take up the sport seriously when he saw South African batsman Hershel Gibbs in action a few years ago. Tim has had another

reason to celebrate this week too, as he has just learned that Lancashire

have raised him to Level Two status in their Lev els of Excellence scheme. He has established

himself as an impressive all-rounder in recent years, he was his county age group's leading wick et taker for the second season running this term, with 18 wickets, as well as second in the batting averages. Meanwhile, in inter

schools matches for Stonyhurst he has achieved 82 not out, three scores of 50 not out, and seven wickets for seven runs. Tim, who lives in

Ilurst Green, said: “It’s a real honour to be selected by the ECB for these spe cial sessions and I am really looking forward to learning from Gary Yates and improving my skills.” All boys representing

the county are awarded Level One s ta tu s on selection for Lancashire. Level Two s ta tu s is awarded for match win ning contributions to their side, and for improvements in skill, fitness, tactics and life style. Level Three is awarded

to those who gain entry into the county's Acade my.-

in national pool finals CLITHEROE’S Pool Town Team booked their place in the National League Finals in Great Yarmouth next year after comfortably seeing off Preston City on Sunday. The 12-man side took the eight frames they needed

to secure one of 96 places in the two-day April com petition, before completing a 13-5 win over their visi tors at the Royal British Legion. Clitheroe have not made the finals of the competi

tion since earlier this decade, and their achievement adds to the cup success they had earlier this year. Ian Townson, Liam Sutcliffe and Paul Hodges each

won both of their games to help the side to victory. Meanwhile, town team player Ian Harle is doing his

bit to raise money for Children In Need by holding a Beat the Champion Night at the Royal Oak on Fri day, November 16th.

Starting at 7-30 p.m., at a cost of £1 a go, with all

proceeds going to charity, anyone who beats Harle will win a prize.

to score again and take the lead, but Preston held on with good defending. The game was as good
