Nelson Juniors .......... 3 Wolves Under 1 6 s ........ 4 WOLVES staged an impressive second half comeback to beat Nelson. The Pendle team took

the lead early on with a shot that looped over the helpless Kris Holden, before leading Wolves marksmen Ryan Du Plessis coolly converted a Sam Hartley cross to level the scores. However, Nelson scored

twice to go in at half-time with a well-deserved lead. Wolves registered the

first goal of the second half through Tom Grimes on his return from injury, picking up a loose shot from Du Plessis and stroking the ball home. Nelson ra t tled the

underside of the bar, only to see the ball bounce out and the rebound ham mered against the wood work too. Substitute man-of-the-

Whites Under 9s Red . .0 Brierfield C e lt ic ..........8 DESPITE a spirited per formance, the Wolves went down to defeat. The first half saw Wolves on the attack, but

they were unable to capi talise on their chances, and trailed at half time. The second half was a

similar story, as Celtic emerged triumphant. Wolves Under 8 s .........8 Fenny Reccers ...........1 THE young Wolves dom inated from the outset. The firs t goal was

half-time thanks to a well- taken shot from Reuben Hirst and a penalty from Nathan Mitchell. In the second half,

Wolves soaked up endless pressure from Fulledge, and thanks to a great per formance from man-of- the-match goalkeeper Jay Wardleworth, it looked like they would make it to the next round. However, a late equalis

er after a break down the left denied them the chance. The match could have

gone either way, but Fulledge scored and then dug in for victory. Wolves Under 7 s ......... 4 Globe Bullouyh Park. .0 THE young Wolves stretched their unbeaten still further on Sunday. Clitheroe dominated

the game from start to fin ish with goals coming from man-of-the-match Taylor Wilson(2), Matthew King and Harry Jackson.

Huncoat .....................0 Langho Under 11s . . . .2

FOR the first time this season, Langho got the result their play has deserved. The team were deter

mined not to concede an early goal, which has been their downfall recently, and a committed display saw the sides go into half time goal-less. The breakthrough came

shortly after the break with a delightful chip from Jake Willacy. James Blow prompted

numerous attacks, with both Edward Yates and Joe Clarke came close to adding another, before man-of-the-match Zak Dardouri settled the away team’s nerves with a long- range second goal. Accrington Stanley . . .7 Langho Under 12s-------- 2 UNBEATEN table-top ping Accrington got an early shock as Langho led 2-1 at the break. Marshalled in midfield

by referee's man-of-the- match Joel Phelps, Lang ho scored two super goals through Callum Everett and Kieran Cunliffe. However, after the

break, a crazy five minutes saw Stanley ease into a 4-2 lead, and three more goals late in the game followed as a weakened Langho side

tired. Langho look forward to

the reverse fixture next week with some interest.

Belvedere......................1 Riminglon Under 12s .5

RIMINGTON put the disappointment of their last game behind them against physical oppo nents. They got off to a lively

s ta r t when Elliot Kay opened the scoring in the third minute, and two minutes later Daniel Mort was on hand to tuck in the second from a rebound. The home team gained

their composure and threatened the Rimington goal with a few long balls to their centre forwards, but Steven Dewhurst held firm until the 15th minute, when Belvedere scored . with a shot which dipped under his crossbar. Rimington exerted

relentless pressure, and two minutes before the interval, Mort restored the two-goal advantage. The 'second half was

dominated by the visitors, and Mort extended the lead shortly after the restart. Tom Perris and Chris

Bentley came on in the second half and had numerous chances, but the Belvedere goalkeeper denied them. The final goal came just

before the end as Mort hit his fourth to affirm Rim- ington’s dominance. The man-of-the-match

award went to skipper Zak Robinson.

Cavaliers’ uphill battle

Clitheroe Cavaliers........5 Fylde Vandals.............38

THE Cavaliers knew they had an uphill battle against a well-drilled team who have lost just once this season. It is testimony to the spir

it of the Cavaliers that they held the visitors at bay for the majority of the first half. Some sterling defence

from both forwards and backs kept the Clitheroe line intact, with some huge hits coming from Mark Curphy on his return from injury. At scrum time, Clitheroe

held their own against one of the best packs in the league, with Bob Wilkinson, also on his return from injury, pro viding some extra grunt in the second row.

Mishandling by Clitheroe

gave Fylde turnover ball for them to score under the posts, and they notched a second try just half-time. The half-time pep talk

reinforced the fact that the Cavaliers still in the game, and th a t they needed to keep the passion and aggres sion for the second period. The home side didn’t dis

appoint, and within five minutes scored a try through winger and man-of- the-match Simon Gretton. Dan Jefferson, captain

and hooker, took a ball against the head and passed to Bill Thatcher, who, sens ing a weak link on one of the wings, put in a testing kick. Gretton managed to get his

hands on the ball and side step his man to score in the left hand comer. The score certainly put

the cat among the pigeons, and the visitors took stock and showed why they are at the top end of the table. The second half was a

treat for the spectators, who saw a number of well- worked tries from the visi

tors. The Cavaliers had to

regroup, with both Wilkin son and Curphy leaving the field. The changes saw Andy

Blenkinship, Dave Fairhurst and Robert Blesard get their first start for Clitheroe, and they did themselves and the team proud.

Early presents!

CHRISTMAS came early for Clitheroe Golf Club’s John Fryer and Jeff Crowther when they took the Turkey Shoot honours by a country mile. Their 49-point return

gave them a massive seven-shot margin, to each claim a lovely bird provid ed by local butcher Alan Hacking. The also-rans, who gob

bled up the minor prizes, were led by Antony McGibbon and Norman

■ Fielding. Their 42 points were

matched by David Enion and Johnathon Sheasby, but a better back nine gave the former pairing second spot. Paul Connolly and

Miles Wade had a one-shot advantage over Garry Speak and Mike Tatter- sail, leaving the Cherry brothers, Steve and Simon, to take the final piece of cake on 40 points. Then final medal round

found Stephen Taylor in sparkling form. His nett 67 was the best

of the day, and gave him the Division Two prize. Tom Madden’s nett 72

was good enough for sec ond spot, with a two-shot margin over the persistent Alan Wright. John Pawson completed

his season with a nett 69 to take Division One by one shot from David Heesom and Daniel Preedy. The Dewhurst Trophy

for the best six medal cards in the year resulted in the tightest possible finish, and needed a card play-off to separate the top two. Connor McLaughlin

took the prize, with his 418 total matched by former ELGA captain Tony Flanagan, with Mark Ash worth four shots back. There was a three-way

tie at the top of Division One of the ladies’ nine-hole Turkey Shoot. Jan Burrows took top

spot from Chris Stokes and Marie Finney. And the leading three in

Division Two all finished on the same score, Marie Finney getting the nod ahead of Kath Bithell and J. Farthing.
