www.clitheroeadvertiser.co.uk The Beauty is Back
After 550 years you could be forgiv en for thinking that her best days were behind her. Forlorn and all but forgotten she stood waiting for a new partner to come along, a new lover and keeper to roll back the years and re-discover the real beauty within. Arid guess what, she just got lucky!
After a change of ownership and a whirlwind refur bishment, Mitton Hall has had what can only be described a total transformation and is now back in business, and it certainly has the wow factor in spades!
This luxurious hotel, restaurant and bar, situated on the outskirts of Whalley is just waiting to meet and greet you. Dating from the late 15th Century, Mitton Hall has all of the history and character you could wish for and now, following a major investment programme the new owners, James Warburton and the team behind The Emporium in Clitheroe, have retained and restored the old and skilfully blended it with the new to achieve a warm and inviting ambience with a lavish contemporary twist.
"We have tried to create a modern day country house ambience rather than the more traditional, sometimes stuffy atmosphere of a country house hotel. It is luxu rious in a contemporary way and in a useable way, with a warmth and friendliness that extends to the staff and the style of service”, Mr Warburton explains.
The Great Hall and its log fires have welcomed visitors for centuries. Oozing character, it enables guests to soak up the opulent surroundings of an age gone by before venturing further.
The newly remodelled bar and lounge continues to mix the old and the new. Cracked leather tub chairs sit cheek by jowl with chrome stools and glass-topped tables. Pewter light fittings hang from the ceiling over the bar and cast pools of light to create a richly atmos pheric ambience.
The bar and lounge areas offer an equally distinctive menu of modern classics, such as chicken Caesar salad, triple deck club sandwich and twice-baked cheese souffle to tapas-style dishes such as lobster tempura, gambas pil pil and chicken yaki tori. Memories of hol
idays in far off land come flooding back and if you wish to share a few dishes there are plenty of options available.
•
The menu is served from noon to 3 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and all day on Saturday and Sunday.
For the more substantial dining experience, Mitton Hall can offer the choice of three dining rooms for a quite mouth-watering brasserie menu. The main din ing room has echoes of a French chateau, again with a contemporary twist, and can seat up to 70 guests. Visitors to Mitton Hall over the years will be amused to see that the large old fireplace is still being used as the wine cellar!
Two smaller rooms, seating 12 and 20, are ideal for pri vate dinners, parties and celebrations where you can let the staff take all of the strain of entertaining, including doing the washing up!
Tempted, or perhaps intrigued? Then take a trip out to Mitton Hall and experience this amazing place for yourself. It certainly is the place to be, just perfect for a long lazy weekend lunch, or a fabulous evening out with friends. It's not a bad spot for a morning coffee and a catch-up natter either.
this refreshing individuality means that Mitton Hall is also the perfect venue for weddings, parties and other special, occasions.
It boasts a separate function suite with a capacity for 200 guests and with a dazzling, contemporary bar area that features a sleek plasma TV screen for presenta tions, slideshows and big sporting events, it certainly doesn't look or feel like any other function room bar. The new layout has other benefits, as Ria Marshall, the hotel's general manager is keen to emphasise,
"The creation of the new party room and bar means that we can host fantastic weddings and other special events without interfering with the day to day opera tion of the hotel, restaurant and bar".
Outside the transformations are no less impressive. The formal gardens have been tidied up and the over grown trees and bushes removed to allow the house a bit of breathing room so it can be appreciated in all its glory from the roadside and main entrance gates. The nine acres of beautiful ancient woodland and stone flagged terraces surrounding the hotel provide won derful views over the Ribble at the rear and Pendle Hill to the front and are the perfect romantic backdrop for photographs all year round.
