THERE’S a Dickens of a night in store tonight! The annual Pickwick Night festivities

take place this evening and organisers are predicting a fantastic night - full of fun and with plenty of entertainment and laughter. The event, which is in its 19th year,

promises something for everyone. The memorable occasion sees hundreds of people flocking to Whalley as the village turns the clock back to create an authen tic 19th Century atmosphere. Brass bands, steam organs, fire eaters,

jugglers and school choirs have all been part of the line-up in previous years to offer a splendid “Dickens of an evening.” Joyous attractions coupled with an

authentic atmosphere will enable visitors to sample rich pickings offered by local traders, who will be dressed in Victorian outfits. Motorists are reminded that the centre

of Whalley will be closed to traffic for the village’s annual Christmas extravaganza. King Street, in Whalley, will close

between Station Road and Accrington Road from 5-30 to 9 p.m. Only accident and emergency vehicles will have access to the centre of the village during these hours. Bus routes through the centre of the village will also be affected. Parking will be available at Railway Sidings in Station Road. This area will be super vised and a park-and-ride scheme will be in operation. • Please note, there will no parking

facilities at Oakhill College in Wiswell Lane,

So, if you are stuck for ideas this

Christmas and are looking for originality and variety, head out to Whalley and get all your shopping done in festive style.

they can to share this festive season. "That should add to the fun

with family and friends, while helping conserve energy at one of the peak times of the year for energy-guzzling at home. "Even small things can

make a big difference - from family film viewing to can dlelit dinners after a tiring festive period. It doesn't real ly matter how you share - ultimately it will help us all save energy and protect the environment." • Continued on next page
