A COMPETITION to compile a calendar for Unicef has grabbed the imagination of
Ribble Valley children. There were more than 500
entries from six schools. Here we feature the winning
entries which are portrayed in the calendar, which is on sale from this
week. Dr Sheila Bailey told us that organisers had been thrilled by the response, adding “the calendars look fantastic and it is really won derful to know th a t the work of local children will have an impact on the lives of some of the poorest children in the world.” She paid tribute to sponsors and particularly to Guy Purves of Gin
ger Pumpkin. The Ribble Valley group’s aim is to raise £100,000 to provide four cold storage facilities in remote parts of Ethiopia to facilitate the delivery of vaccines against measles, polio, whooping cough, TB and tetanus. All of these are childhood illness
es which often prove fatal in Ethiopia.
To-date more than £40,000 has been raised following various suc
cessful events. The calendars are priced a t
£7.50 and £6 from the sale of each one sold will go directly to the Ethiopia Cold Chain Project. They are on sale at Melt, Shack-
letons, Breda Murphy's, Bashall Bam, the Clitheroe Advertiser and
Times and various other outlets. They can also be purchased by contacting:
