24 Clitheroe Advertiser & Times, Thursday, December 28th, 2006 4 Mini Spotligtit On Painting shows Clitheroe as it was in U20s A
FULL size copy of this original oil painting of Clitheroe is now on display at the town's library, with the permission of Towneley Hall Art Gallery,
via a photograph by Ken Geddes, of Ribblesdale Cam era Club, and its enlargements and mounting by Paul Graham, Photographic Processing Ltd Blackburn. The Ainsworth Research Trust and Ribblesdale Cam
era Club wish to thank the library for agreeing to its per manent display for the benefit of Ribble Valley residents and visitors from further afield. TheTrust has made a donation to Towneley Hall and
funded the enlargement and mounting costs. A second copy has been given to Clitheroe Museum. In the reference department of the library are the full
details and correspondence of the extensive research done in recent months confirming and attributing the painting to Mathias Read. This research tells of his background, has enabled a date of 1720s to be suggest ed, as well as showing a link with Thomas Parker of
Browsholme Hall, a governor of CRGS for several years until his death in 1728.
