funded the enlargement and mounting costs. A second copy has been given to Clitheroe Museum. In the reference department of the library are the full


details and correspondence of the extensive research done in recent months confirming and attributing the painting to Mathias Read. This research tells of his background, has enabled a date of 1720s to be suggest­ ed, as well as showing a link with Thomas Parker of


Browsholme Hall, a governor of CRGS for several years until his death in 1728.
