Pull together for a good cause

A CHATBURN pub licensee is calling on local villagers to pull together and beat cancer. Miss Kathryn Gooding (20), who runs

the Brown Cow Pub, Chatbum, is holding a craft fair on Saturday, November 11th, in aid of Cancer Research UK - a charity close to her heart. However, she is appealing to village folk

to come forward and pledge support for the one-day event.

The former pupil of Clitheroe Royal

Grammar School said: “To make the day a real success and raise lots of money for the charity, we need the support of people to host stalls. We already have people hosting a flower stall and a handbags stall, but we are looking for more. “During the event there will be stalls of

tombola, raffle, tea, coffee and cakes.” She added: “I am trying to reunite the

village. Community spirit has dropped in Chatburn and I ’m pretty sure that the craft fair will bring everyone together under one roof and also raise money for a good cause. This will demonstrate how vil lagers are pulling together to beat cancer.” The doors of the pub will be thrown open

between noon and 4 p.m. during the fair. Admission fee is 50p each and £15 each to set up a stall. If you require further infor mation or are wishing to pledge support, please call Kathr3m on 01200 441272.

fund-raising committee is selling raffle tickets for the Christmas Draw, with the help of town centre traders, to raise at least £5,000. The organ was built in 1913 by James Jepson

Binns, of Leeds, who was famous for the quality of materials he used, as well as his skill. As well as being used for Sunday Sung

Eucharist and monthly Choral Evensong, it is also used by the Organ Society, now in its 45th year, for concerts and recitals.

Canon Philip Dearden said: “I hope people will

support the organ appeal through the raffles. We have managed to raise £26,000 of the £120,000 required to restore the organ and have been delighted with the response we have received so far.” Mr Dearden added that the completion of the

work will ensure that the splendid reputation of the instrument is upheld and enhanced, making it one of the finest instruments in the North West!
