Everything to assist you with your special day

ANOTHER birthday has just passed, so to mark the occasion my husband took me but for a wonderful surprise. The day to remember began when he said: “I’m taking you to see The Queen’ - the current film that is, not HRH - but pack an overnight bag too.” The film was excellent, with Helen Mirren

playing the part of the Queen to perfection, and Sylvia Sims taking the role of HRH the Queen Mother, playing a lovely cameo role. . After the film my mystery trip began, with a ride along the motorway eventually arriving at our destination, Stanley House, in Mellon Our bedroom was the flamingo room, decorated in an unusual way with antique French-style fur niture, together with art nouveau mirrors, dress ing table and chair and finished off with flamin gos on the wallpaper and two wooden ones standing on the windowsill. Of course, the en- suite was out of this world too. We enjoyed a delicious meal in the Cassis

erac region of France. Arriving with little knowledge of the French lan guage and no experience of wine making, she mastered both. Now her experiences are detailed in her book: “The Ripening Sun”. Patricia continues

to push this region in consumers’ minds with a range of two crafted wines. The first is CLOS

d’YVIGNE “Le Petit Prince”. Abig (90%) Merlot-based wine grown on gravel and sandy soils, it is per fect for the grape variety. An explosion of ripe plums and cherries with gentle ripe tannins makes this perfect for casseroles and hard cheeses. Its little sis ter is CLOS d’YVI GNE “Princess de CIcves”, the current vintage released is 2005. It is an inter esting blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semilion and a touch of Muscadelle com bining to provide a fresh citrussy nose with aromas of net tles and cut grass. Balanced acidity makes this perfect for oily fish and grilled goats cheese. Both wines are

around £7.99 for the red and £6.99 for the white. Available at Booths and Majestic Wine Warehouse.

Clitheroe Advertiser STimes, Thursday, October 26th, 2006 29 Speed enforcement vans are out

MOTORISTS who speed do so at their peril as a fleet of bright yellow enforce ment vans take to the region’s roads. The Lancashire Partnership for Road

Safety has taken delivery of the new set of vehicles to help in its work enforcing the county’s speed limits. The Vauxhall Vivaros are all liveried in bright yellow - a colour chosen to make the mobile and static camera enforcement vans highly visible to motorists. They also have a reflective “batten-

burg” design on both sides, along with the crest of the Partnership. Internally they are fitted out to accom

modate all the necessary equipment and to give the operator and the motorist a high degree of safety. The new vehicles are more cost-effective

and replace the Ford Galaxys and Renault Kangoos previously used, as part of an

agreed five-year plan. Motorists can visit the partnership’s website (www.safe2trav- el.co.uk) for a full list of fixed camera sites and the mobile sites being enforced each week. Pictured is one of the new bright yellow speed enforcement vans, (s)
