Birthday Members and friends of Gisburn WI enjoyed an excellent meal at the White Bull, to celebrate the 57th birthday.
President Mrs Jean Ryde conducted a short business meet ing and concluded the night with three games of bingo,-the lucky winners were Mrs Maureen Bowe, Mrs Hilda Wadding- ton and Mrs Bridget Sharpies who each took home a house plant. All five mem bers who applied to go to the spring coun-
, cil meeting in South- port were allocated tickets, the speaker was Baroness Betty Boothroyd.-
Guest speaker at the - meeting on April 7th will be Mrs Angela Moseley, her topic is “Aloe Vera; the Silent Healer”. Anyone interested is welcome to the Festival Hall at 7-30 p.m.

. speaker Mr Jim Hal- sall who showed slides of the Ribble Valley since 1900. The slides, which Mr Halsall had found in a basement, showed many inter esting and beautiful views and many buildings which no longer exist, from the stocks in Bolton-by- Bowland,-Chatburn Railway Station, a fascinating view of the weir in Clitheroe and Spring Bridge at Low Moor. The pho tographs were quite stunning and Mr Hal sall said that the pho tographer had trav elled everywhere with his equipment by bicycle.
Suggestions are still needed for guest speakers next year, ideas to Mrs Devoy. The Hot Pot maga zines were won by Stephanie and Joyce and the raffle by Mrs Irene Alpen. Invita tions have been received from Knowle Green and Dutton and Balderstone WIs, and anyone interested should contact Miss Pauline Ormerod.
Many members agreed, as an alterna tive to the Christmas dinner, it would be a lovely change to see the production of “Acorn Antiques” at the Lowry

Union on a tour around York last week. Mr Denis Cairns,
of
Barnoldswick, had explored many of the city’s lesser-known bye-ways and discov ered gems of medieval and Roman architec ture, carvings and his torical sites, contrast ing with slides of the majestic minster and other grand buildings. Mr Cairns had many fascinating details and anecdotes to accompany the illus trations, bringing to life many centuries of life and history.
Arrangements were made for the part MU members will play in this Sunday’s Mothering Sunday service in Gisburn Parish Church, start ing at 11 a.m. Then, the following day, a group of members will attend the aimual Lady Day service in
. Skipton Parish Church. Names were taken of those mem bers \vishing to attend the Bowland MU Deanery Festival at PIorton-in-Ribbles- dale on May 22nd.
The April 11th meeting of Gisburn MU will be held in Rimington Memorial Institute at 7-30 p.ra.
First class Toni Parker and the Rimington and Mid- dop First Responders would like to say a big thank you to Kath, Ralph, Pauline and the staff at the White Bull, Gisburn, for adopting them as their charity of the year. The First Responders have to raise all their own money to pay for

Barn Dance The Friends of St Joseph's are holding a Barn Dance to raise funds for the school at the village's Memorial Hall on April 1st. The event is open to all families, who can rely on the expert musicianship of Greg and Mary Mann to guide them through the steps.

Before the trip is booked, the organisers would like an idea of the potential-numbers.
