- Sergi Arola which was served oh ; our flight to Chile with Iberian; Ainvays a few-weeks ago.-This’ was the s ta r t of a fantastic; South American adventure for myself and: husband Vic. Our- first flight of ,11 was to Santia-; go de Chile where we ■visited the famous Vina Concha y Toro. The next day we travelled by road to Valparaiso and, then flew southito Puerto Montt, one of the world’s most beauti-’ ful lake districts Our hotel in Puerto Varas


had a spectacular view over the snow-capped Lake Osorno vol­ cano.

Anne’s war diary to hit village stage


AN ambitious project is about to come to fruition for members of Stage Two Downham whose latest production of “The Diary of Anne Frank” begins its four-night run on Wednes­ day in Dovvnham Village Hall. Directed by. Pran Osborne


the 10-strong cast will unfold the well-known story of Annaliesse Marie Frank who was born in Germany on June 12 th, 1929. When the Nazis came to


power, her father Otto Frank decided to move his Jewish family to Amsterdam, which he thought was a safe haven for religious minorities. However, by 1942 the round-up of Jews and their deportation to con­ centration camps was becoming routine. The family moved into a hid­


ing place above Otto’s ware­ house and for two years eight people occupied these cramped rooms. Unfortunately, the story does not have a happy ending as only the father Otto Frank survived the war, however Anne’s diary also came to light
