bers were chosen for this collection of the best images from the North West, all selected from the 2005 competition. High marks were awarded to “Soft Weather" and “Weardale”, both by Stephen Robin son, and to “Sanding the Track”, by Ken Geddes, all with 18 out of 20. Not far away were two other slides by Ken Ged des: “Cao Dao Temple” and “Charles Bridge, Prague”. These scored 17 and 16 respectively.: A little was also learned about judging
as the members were asked to guess the scoring before the actual marks were given. By and large the club was in line with the experts, except for one superb picture by Steve Ashcroft, called “South- port Pier”, which was universally highly scored by the club. Despite sweeping all before it in previous competitions, it was awarded a miserly 13 points by the judges. Nobody could explain that! •The club’s annual competition for
colour prints will be judged next week. Prospective members are welcome at the meeting, which will take place at the Young Farmers’ Centre at Clitheroe Auc tion Mart, Lincoln Way. The meeting starts at 7-30 p.m. More information can be obtained
from the club’s chairman, Jeff Cowling, 01200 440868, or the secretary, Ken Ged des, on 01200 423474.

untrodden snow SEVEN Clitheroe ramblers were surprised to find snow covering the Stickle Barn car park in the Great Langdale Valley. The felltop forecast for the Lake District
mountain had been for snow on ground above 2,000ft. Led by David Taylor, the group followed
the crowds in single file in snow steps up the side of Mill Gill to Stickle Tam where they sat on the dam wall in the sun for their morning break. The route via Bright Beck to the high
ground between High Raise and Thunacar Knott was taken and they were alone in an area of untrodden snow with clear blue skies and wonderful views. Crinkle Crags, Bowfell, Scafell Pike and Great Gable were all very prominent. After a late lunch the descent was by way
of Stake Pass and Mickleden back to the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel.
Drink-driving charge
CLITHEROE man Mark William Nuttall (42), of Castlegate, was fined £200 with
, £35 costs and disqualified from driving for 16 months when he appeared before Black burn magistrates and pleaded guilty to
driving with excess alcohol; Nuttall gave a reading of 57 against the
legal limit of 35.

Radio station hopes for a second airing in summer j 2 HADDOCK &
Weekendplus - pages 46 and 47
THE future looks incredibly exciting for the Ribble Valley Radio. We set out last year in unchartered waters and it’s thanks to the wonderful community of the Ribble Valley that we achieved our'
®
goals in phase one. Our second phase is already well under
way and we have set targets for a further two trial broadcasts this year - one in June and one in December.
; The community station, which gave 47
presenters the opportunity to prepare, pr^, duce and present their own programme is the beauty of community r a d i o . ; We are giving real people real opportuni
ties in radio and I am pleased to announce that Stephen Thompson (16), of Slaid- burn, who presented the Club Anthems show, is now working for Preston-based
Rock FM. , This is a major achievement, not only for.
Stevie T, as listeners will know him, but for •Ribble Valley Radio in providing him the confidence to apply for such a job. The not-for-profit community radio sta
tion, whose sole purpose is to bring a “voice of the valley”, aims to provide a perma nent radio service, but Government legis lation only allows a fledgeling radio group two trial broadcasts per year to begin. It costs £5,000 to broadcast these trial
28-day transmissions and we are now going to restart our innovative fund-raising proj ects, the first being the “Easter Family Fun Day Eggstravaganza” on Saturday, April 15th, at the St Mary’s Centre, Church Street, Clitheroe.
PC assaulted by boxing fan
THE gloves were off when a Clitheroe man assaulted a police officer after going to his mother’s home to record a late night boxing match. ' Paul John Mooney (42), :of
Millthorne House, pleaded guilty to police assault at a previous appearance before Blackburn magistrates, who adjourned his case for a pre-sentence report. When he returned for sentenc ing, he was made subject to a commu-, nity supervision order for 12 months and ordered to pay £50 compensation to the police officer and £65 towards prosecution costs. Mr John Wood (prosecuting) said
police were called by Mooney’s mother because of his behaviour towards her. "It was established he had gone to
her home to record a boxing match, but she said he was no longer welcome," said Mr Wood. "He was given the opportunity to set the video and then leave and initially offered no resist-'
ance." ■ As Mooney was being escorted down,
the hallway he tripped over a bicycle and immediately faced the officer and punched him three or four times. Two officers were able to restrain him and when he was interviewed at the police station he conceded that the police had been polite and treated him well. Mr Jonathan Taylor (defending)
said Mooney had not intended staying at his mother's to watch the fight, but wanted to set up the video equipment
and then leave. "It seems he wasn't able to achieve . i
that as quickly as the police wanted and he was escorted from the premis-
