' Eddie Harrison (prose cuting) said the offences in the cemetery had caused considerable dis-
: tress. He submitted copies of letters published in the. Clitheroe Advertiser and Times which expressed the feelings of-people involved. "When one looks a t a
charge of criminal dam age it is not always evi dent just what upset is caused beyond the fihan- ^ cial value. These two let-, ters should .clear up any doubt about the sort of distress th a t has been
'
caused," said Mr Harrison who revealed the total compensation was £4,570. He said a woman visit
ing the cemetery at lunch time had seen two boys kicking a bench. They ran off but she recognised their school uniforms and went to the school, returning with two teach-: ers.
They.confronted the
boys and asked them to get in the car, but the boys refused and left. The police were then informed. Mr Harrison said when
the boy was interviewed about the car damage his phone was handed over and this contained video clips of the incidents. Michael Blacklidge
(defending) said another juvenile had been given a caution for his part in the cemetery incident and
_two youths had been dealt with for their part in the damage to the cars. ; ,
Man;was crushed by forklift truck
by Faiza Af zaal
A CLITHEROE factory worker told an inquest of the horrifying moment he found his colleague crushed behind his fork- lift truck. Mr Ian Bradley (59),
pictured, an experienced fitter'at Castle Cement, Clitheroe, was discovered pinned between loaded pallets and metal racking by storeman Mr John Ainsworth, on November 3rd last year.
. , ^ ^ Blackburn, Hyndburn .
and Ribble Valley coroner Mr Michael Singleton, recorded a verdict of acci dental death, unanimous ly agreed by all 11 mem bers of the. jury following Tuesday’s inquest at the Ribble Valley Borough Council chamber in Clitheroe. ; The inquest heard how
on the morning of the incident, Mr Bradley,, who. worked at the com pany for 40 years, had been transporting spares and parts from one ware house to another a t the Ribblesdale Worksite. , Mr'Ainsworth, told the^
coroner how a t 11 a.m., Mr Bradley, whp he had worked with for 40 yearn, collected a pallet of motor gear ; boxes ' weighing •
600kg and drove towards the warehouse, but failed to return. ; He went to look for him
and found him trapped by wooden pallets, which were as high as his chest. The truck had hit him' and smashed into racking. The engine had been left running, the handbrake slightly on and in forward gear while Mr Bradley unloaded the goods. Mr Ainsworth added
that it was very unusual for an experienced driver like Mr Bradley to leave the engine of the truck running while h e : unloaded the goods. ■ Colleagues’ battled to
save Mr Bradley by administering first aid and used .d defibrillator to revive him, but it was too late.
