the school council organised the event for years three to six. They wrote to parents, designed posters,

sold tickets and provided food and drink to make the party a success. The Year 6 pupils organised every aspect of

the evening, including the DJ and heart

shaped arrangements which decorated the hall.

The disco raised £93 from ticket sales and

the tuck shop, which children plan to use to organise a Teddy Bear’s picnic for the infants. The photograph shows the school council in their Valentine disco outfits, (s)

Some lively banter

A COMPETITION night was enjoyed by members of Clitheroe Speakers’ Club dur ing their February meeting. Hosted by chairman Dorothy Gertson,

10 volunteers each presented a three- minute talk on a chosen subject, on which the audience then voted. In first place was John Adey, who is due

to compete in the area topics competition next year and Stuart Herkes came second. The evening also featured a first speech

by IHarie Rostron, who talked about a fam ily holiday in an idyllic bay on the Devon coast. This was evaluated by Penny Ogden, who praised Marie's confidence and com mand of vocabulary and looked forward to her progressing through the speaking exer cises in the Speakers’ Guide. The next meeting is on Monday, March 6th, at the Young Farmers’ Club, Clitheroe Auction Market, Lincoln Way, at 7-30 p.m. Visitors are most

welcome. For more information call 01200 422887
