MORE than 4,000 visitors flocked to the 77th annual Chipping Agricultural and Horticultural S o c ie ty Show over the weekend - and no one left disappoint ed.
After a month of torrential
downpours, both the organis ers and visitors were delight ed to have bright sunshine on Saturday, which helped the crowds enjoy an action- packed programme of events, shows and more than 40 trade stands. Among the special guests
present at the show were Kib ble Valley Mayor Coun. Charles Warkman and his wife, Ruth, and the borough’s MR Mr Nigel Evans. Commenting on the suc

cessful day, show secretary Mr Stanley Bullock said: “It was a very enjoyable day. “We had to battle against
the elements to get the show on due to the difficult weather
conditions recently, but the sun shone on Saturday and all the vis itors seemed to be pleased with the attractions on show.” They included livestock
classes for cattle, sheep, goats, horses and ponies, pigeons and poultry, plus classes for handicrafts and cakes and preserves ensuring something for everyone No aspect of farming or
country life went unrecog nised. Some of the non-farming
activities included a fell race, baby show, dog show, egg catching and children’s sports. Other attractions included
vintage vehicles, a produce market, craft tent, trade stands, a display by Chipping Pony Club, a sheepdog dis play and a licensed bar. I t was a successful day for
all involved with the organisa tion, particularly show presi dent Mr W. Huck and chair man Mr Peter Rogerson.

A COFFEE morning hosted by mem
bers of the Pendle Club, Clitheroe, has raised over £300. The sunshine attracted more than 50
people to the club, which is situated in Lowergate. Among those present were the Mayor of Clitheroe, Coun. Joan Knight, who is also the club’s president. A variety of stalls were staged on the
day, including ones for cakes and bric-a- brac plus a tombola.
Speaking on the success of the charity
event, one of the organisers, Mrs Grace Hulbert, said: “I would like to thank everyone who attended and helped with the stalls. “The money will help towards organ

Sun shines on fellowship fair
POLYTHENE sheets kept in readiness for a downpour were not needed when the sun shone on the annual Whalley Abbey Fellowship summer fair. After a month of torren

bric-a-brac, cakes, plants and book stalls, lunches in the dining room and enter tainment by the Accring ton Accordion Band and the Carltonaires Major-

Photographic pair in acclaimed exhibition
LOCAL p hotograp he rs Stewart Clark and Ken Geddes are represented in the Pendle Print Circle's highly-acclaimed annual exhibition. I t is being held for the first
time in the Rossendale Muse um, Whittaker Park, Rawten- stall, and the two local men, both members of the Ribbles- dale Camera Club, are delight ed to be included. The Pendle Print Circle is a
select group of 12 leading East Lancashire p r in t photogra
phers, current members also coming from Accrington, Burnley, Clitheroe, Darwen and Oswaldtwistle. About 90 prints from 11 photographers are on view. Photographs were taken on
every kind of camera, from tiny pocket models to home made large format designs. Colour film, black-and-white film and the la te s t digital technologies were used. Subjects are equally varied.
There are landscapes taken quite locally, in the Dales, the Lakes and in Wales and Scot
land; pictures of industry from heavy metalworking to fishing, and o rd in ary people going about their everyday business. Faraway locations include
China, Corsica, the Czech Republic and Vietnam. Digi tal manipulation has produced montages and in te rp lay of colour and monochrome. The exhibition is open from
1 to 4-30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays until October 31st. Admission is free and there is wheelchair access and parking within a few yards of the museum entrance.
