■; Attending the event were
society secretary Mrs Kath Haywood, church organist Mr Michael Pain, society treasurer Mr Norman Leigh and the vicar of the Parish Church, Canon Philip Dear- den. Mrs Haywood said that the coffee morning was a great success, which, along with donations forwarded

Good results "at market
A,WELL supported and . successful day at, the Clitheroe'Auction Market brought good results all
round. The star sell of the. day ,
were the strong continen tal heifers which a York shire buyer bought for £535. The store bulls saw £522
paid for some ‘red’ carded bulls, which were 10 months of age.
. The smaller cattle set
off well, but only got dear er as the day progressed. There is the uncertainty of ' subsidy being withdrawn, therefore many buyers are now switching to the female lines. Ewes and lambs again
did very well, with £48 per life being the top price for some shearling texels with twin lambs. Store lambs are still reaching £44 per head. On Tuesday there was a
marked drop in the num ber of hoggs, to see only ju s t over 100 penned. A top price of 162p/kg or £22.50-above weight was recorded. The overall aver age for hoggs was 142p/kg while a small number of prime lambs averaged 181.50/kg.
