AS the August Bank Holiday weekend • gets under way, the Highways Agency will be working to keep as many lanes as possible open on England's motor way and trunk road network to help to keep the traffic moving. Where possible, roadworks and lane
restrictions will be lifted between tomorrow and Tuesday. In some cases restrictions such as lane closures will have to be kept in place for safety reasons, but where this hap pens the Highways Agency will be aiming to keep disruption to a minimum.

Slack Alice at blues festival
HEADLINING at the Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival, Colne on Mon day is local band Cliff Stocker's Slack Alice. The band, headed by Clitheroe business
man Cliff Stocker, has a new line-up. Out has gone Malcolm Crossley and in are drummer Liam Barber and bass guitarist Pietro. The sound, says Cliff, is "fantastic.” Two of Slack Alice's numbers are currently
hitting the airwaves in the USA. Both "The Bottle Song" and "Falling" are receiving a lot of airplay in Nashville and, after 30 years in the industry, it looks as though an invitation to visit the States could be just around the corner for singer/songwriter Cliff and his band. pigeons, pygmy goats, a dog show, the hounds and whips of the Holcombe Hunt - they are all there in abundance in a glorious rural set ting. Car parking is free and for those who like
