..£550 01282 693447 or 07769 675200 Rovers’ on-loan defender Markus Babbel promotes The Card

BLACKBURN Rovers have introduced a new loyalty scheme called The Card that allows dedicated supporters to save money on match day admission prices. The scheme depends upon how many

games you attend, and with each ticket you buy, a proof of purchase sticker is issued that is then attached to your card. When you have placed three, five or

seven different stickers to your card in the coresponding bronze, silver and gold spaces, you can then claim your reward. Bronze, which is a minimum of three stickers, allows £10 off any adult B or C game and £5 for concessions. Whereas silver produces £20 off any

adult B or C game and £10 for concessions with every five stickers collected. And finally seven stickers gives you gold status and a free ticket to any adult or

concessionary ticket for an A, B or C game. All offers must be claimed before the

day of the game. Club chief executive John Williams sup

ports the need for the scheme. He said: "The fact is, to be successful In

the Premier League we need to increase attendances, and the card is an exciting concept which will hopefully prove a great way to do this." But although the campaign aims to increase the club's fan base, season ticket holders can rest assured that as the ulti mate card holder they will automatically qualify for the regular match day draws. The card will be formally launched at

Rovers next home game against Charlton Athletic on Monday October 20th.

Badminton club get off to disappointing start

CLITHEROE A team got off to a slow start in the First Division of the Black burn and District Badminton League with a 10-6 defeat to YMCA B.

" Despite Woods and Brass each scoring three wins apiece, it just wasn't enough to control the match. In the Second Division however,

team found they had no reply to Stanhill B’s strong play as they lost 9-7. However, the D team had more than

their opponents to contend with as they suffered a power cut away at Third Divi sion newcomers Colne, before crashing to a 15-1 defeat. Julie Parker and Raf Parker took the

READ Cricket Club celebrat ed the end of a very successful season on Friday at their annu al presentation evening. After winning the Ribbles-

dale League and Ramsbottom Cup double, it is probably Read’s most successful year in competition. And first team player Terry

was awarded both the Player of the Year Shield and the Jack Harwood Cup for best individ ual performance, a feat he achieved with a century in the Ramsbottom Cup Final. He also took home the first eleven batting cup, as well as

the special award for breaking the club’s amateur batting record with 800 runs. Warren Eastham was pre

sented with the first eleven bowling cup, while the Club Person of the Year went to the lady helpers who raised £1,200 for club funds over the course of the season. Guests of honour on the

night were Ribblesdale League President Arthur Shaw, who primarily presented the Rib blesdale League Championship Cup to the third eleven, and club sponsor John Weston. The second eleven also added

to the club’s achievements by finishing runners-up in the cup as well as gaining promotion to the First Division.

Greenwood calls for improved England

WILL Greenwood, two-try hero of England’s 84-6 opening Rugby World Cup win over Georgia, feels the

. side have a lot to work on. Clive Woodward’s men

play their second group game on Saturday, again in Perth, against South Africa. But despite a compre

hensive start, centre Green wood expects better. He said: “There’s a lot

. there were no easy yards out there. “We put some good' phases together, but we’re

tive at times. “Georgia tackled and chased to the end', and

for us to think about. “We were a bit specula

going into a huge physical test on Saturday, and there’s lots to improve on.” Head coach Woodward

is keeping his fingers crossed that Kyran Brack en will recover from the back problem that ruled him out againstiCeorgia: ‘.‘Bracken’s back was sore on Sunday morning, so we needed to get him warmed up.

William Driver collected the

second team batting cup, while team-mate Chris Holt was pre sented with the new Peter Grainger Cup for best bowling average. Individual trophies present

ed to the third team saw Kyle O’Connor collect the third eleven batting shield, Tom Marsh pick up the bowling shield and Andrew Bennett take home the team special award. Meanwhile, the first team’s

very own 19-year-old fast bowler, Oliver Newby, has just been given a contract by Lan cashire Cricket Club. In the junior ranks of the

club, the Under 15s, who won the Ribblesdale Youth League

Championship Trophy, saw Matthew Doughty given the Player of the Year award and the Derek Birchall Cup for most meritorious progress. While Josh Langford picked

up the Miles Tillotson Trophy for best young fielder. Under 13s Player of the Year

was shared by Jamie Booth and Elliot Artingstall, while Sam Marsh was awarded the Ben Worsley Trophy for Under 11s and Under 13s most meritori ous progress. And Andrew Laycock took

home the Marshall Cup as Under 11s Player of the Year in a season that rewarded the youngsters with the Ribbles dale Youth League Knockout Trophy.

tions the ball was lost or turned over cheaply, and every time this almost led to a direct score by the visitors. Despite having the lions share of

posession in the opening exchanges, they still managed to ship three tries before the interval.

However, the locals did manage

to pull one back before the break, after some good approach work by James McAIoon set up Dave Wat son to cross. Early in the second half, Lytham

effectively sealed the game when a loose line-out throw was eagerly turned into scrambling defence for the hosts. I t was only then tha t the

Clitheroe team decided to play, and eventually allowed prop Adrian Oldroyd to score a consolation try late on.
