Club on Friday. Guest speaker at the charter dinner, held at the
Spread Eagle Hotel in Sawley, was Rotarian Ivan

been awarded Rotary Young Leadership awards.” Money raised by the club has also gone towards Sight Savers and Water Aid, interna tional charities which provide optical care world wide and fresh water for the deprived areas of Africa. can stay says council A NEW and unauthorised entrance gate made in a length of wall at the rear of Victo ria Court, Chatburn, can stay, councillors have decided. A section of the wall was removed and the
gateway installed without planning permis sion, but members of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s planning committee approved a retrospective application when they met. A report to the committee stated that
Chatburn Parish Council was opposed to the new access on to Ribble Lane, but felt the borough council had set a precedent by approving a similar application at a neigh bouring property in Victoria Court. Members of the planning committee were
told the new applicants needed a level entrance to the rear of their property because the front door was at the top of 19 steps and very difficult to use with a pram. Chatburn’s Coun. Howard Douglas com
mented: “This is the second gateway in that long stretch of dressed stone wall, so I don't see how we can object. “I am just worried that the whole wall will end up as a succession of gates.”

Dip in shares is just temporary
A DIP in the shares of Clitheroe-based Ultraframe is due to "temporary influences”, a City commentator wrote this week. A trading update from the conservatory
industry leader reported lower sales and a market which is flat, at least in some areas. But, says the stockbroker commentator,
the disappointing numbers appear to be dri ven by temporary influences. In the longer term, the group should con
tinue to grow by about eight to 10 per cent a year, forecasts the broker. Ultraframe shares were trading around the
300p mark last week, but lost a few pence this week.
Go-ahead given for single storey plan
A SINGLE storey extension to the side and rear of 21 Littlemoor Road, Clitheroe, has been approved by local planners. Members of Ribble Valley Borough Coun
cil’s planning committee approved the pitch- roofed extension, which will comprise a sit ting room, kitchen and utility room. Littlemoor ward Coun. Stephen Sutcliffe
said there was a good deal of room to the side of the house and he was happy to support the application.
Houses at barn site
PLANNING permission has been granted to convert a redundant barn to two houses at Lower Standen Farm, Whalley Road, Clitheroe. ■ The scheme to convert the large barn
involves the demolition of some more recent single storey additions to the building, with other outbuildings^ converted to form garages.: Members of Ribble Valley Borough
Council’s planning committee were satisfied that suitable efforts had been made to mar ket the bam for commercial uses.
