Keeper James is in the goals!

Islington Boys . . . . . . . 3 IN a totally reshuffled team, captain James Scriv- en swapped his keeper's shirt for that of striker and almost bagged a net full. Wolves dominated from

the first whistle and with three minutes gone a super finish from the in-form Danny Dilworth p u t ' Wolves ahead. Further goals came from Scriven and Anthony Gawthorpe before Dilworth netted a second for his brace. . Scriven could have had

more but the ball just would not run for the tow ering Wolves centre for ward. Even though Islington

managed to fire three goals past the locals, Tom Rutherford crowned a superb Clitheroe perfor mance with a 30 yard run and strike that totally con fused the Islington keeper. Man of the match was Simon Mashiter. Wolves Under 1 3 s ........ 2 Rishton........................ 2 .

WOLVES Under 13s had a hard fought and very enter taining match against Rishton th a t saw both sides fully deserve a share of the points. The locals had the best

of the early exchanges with Liam Anderson firing the first chance of the game just over the bar, but it was Rishton who took the lead after five minutes. A low corner evaded the Wolves defence and an unfortunate penalty was conceded when a ricochet hit the arm of a Wolves defender on the line. Clitheroe

equalised immediately when a long range effort from Steve Tandy crashed against a post. But seconds before the half-time whistle Wolves got the boost they were looking for when a miskicked clearance allowed Ryan Finnegan to nip in and score at the far post. In the second half Joe

Ward scored a tremendous half volley from 20 yards to give Wolves the lead and another goal would have probably clinched the game.

to pay for missing a num ber of chances when Rish ton counter-attacked to go ahead 2-1. After this either side could have gone on to win the game but any result other than a draw would have been unjust. The centre back partner

ship of Matt Sedgwick and Mark Higson were out standing, however the team have performed with a great deal of commitment in recent games and every one deserves credit. Wolves Under 7s Blue . .1 BAC Preston.................0 CLITHEROE continued their magnificent start to the season with a close vic tory over a very strong tackling BAC side to move into second spot in the league.' added a fourth,; and Dewhurst completed, his brace to seal the rout.' ' - Wolves Under 1 0 s .........1 Real Juniors................ 3 A POOR s ta r t and two • conceded goals early on proved just too much for the Wolves to come back from in this rare defeat. The locals did lead a sec

ond half resurgence though and a superb cross from Danny McGrath ended up in the back of the net after taking a deflection off a Real defender. This inspired the locals

into pushing for an equalis er but the inevitable hap pened and Real broke free and slotted home their third game beyond the reach of the Wolves. Wolves Under 14s Red .3 Rishton.........................4 DESPITE playing the bet ter football Wolves lost a hard fought top of the table clash against Rishton. The locals did well to

come from behind on three occasions to level the scores but a late winner finally saw them off. On the score sheet for the home side were Conner Parfit, Ben Allen and Matt Hanson. The man of the match

Junior Clarets..............1 WOLVES Under 11s returned to winning ways at the weekend with a con vincing display against Junior Clarets. A good team perfor

mance, particularly in the first half, saw the Wolves control the game from the first whistle. So it came as no surprise when the locals took the lead through an early goal from Haworth. - Further strikes soon fol

Clithcroe Wolves Under 15s Girls, (s)

gan Cook made a brave save' but could not stop the rebound. However, this spurred the

Wolves girls on and encouraged them to fire crosses and shots a t the keeper that eventually resulted in Catherine Bolton lining up a perfect corner for Thomas to head home. Wolves Under 16 B lu e ........ 2 Oswaldtwistle....................0 ANOTHER good team perfor mance from Wolves against

Oswaldtwistle maintains their quest for the league title.: Slight team changes due to

injuries saw strong perfor mances from captain Marcus Pratt and Daz Fothergill who supplied great through balls for Zak Tariq to grab his brace. Phil North was outstanding

in the centre of midfield as he dominated the area and won every challenge for the Wolves side.

When Oswaldtwistle did

manage to break through the Wolves defence Callum Bush was on hand to pull off several quality saves and keep yet another clean sheet. Rossendale United............2 Wolves Under 13s................7 CLITHEROE Wolves Under 13s totally dominated this fix ture from the start and reaped revenge for an earlier defeat against Rossendale.

First half goals from Jordan

Rhodes and Chris Scott saw Clitheroe lead 2-1 at the break before a goal feast erupted in the second half. Ben Frankland, Matthew

Late winner

RIBBLE Valley.eventually lost out by the odd goal in five in this close East Lancashire League First Divi sion encounter. With 20 minutes gone, the home

side found themselves 2-0 down thanks to two set pieces. But credit to the Valleymen, they

went on to dominate the remainder of the match. Goals from Chadwick and top

scorer Chippendale had them level by half-time, and gave them the momentum they managed to sustain throughout the afternoon. Substitutions came thick and fast

as both sides hunted the winner. However, with home star Liam

Lishman being suffocated in the middle of the park, it was left to a piece of individual brilliance to give a chance of victory to the Valley- men. Jamie Stoddaer, after beating sev

eral defenders, was up-ended by his fourth assailant and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. But unfortunately the well-struck

penalty cannoned off the bar and Hurst Green, lifted, found a winner on 80 minutes. A tremendous 30 yard strike, as

spectacular as it was unexpected, giving them three hard-earned points. Although they threatened again

in the latter stages, Anthony Clark son’s Valleymen were beaten for the second time this season.

Winkley and Jay Howard all netted one apiece before Rhodes netted a second for his brace. Man of the match Simon Lakeland also scored and Cia- ron Barton was once again out standing.

Tough battle Attackers strike for big win

iN what proved a very difficult encounter Clitheroe A came up against the might of Salesbury in the Blackburn and District Badminton League. The locals battled hard but came away

with just two wins against last year's First Division runners-up. Paul Cronshaw and Alison Ashurst, plus Pete Woods and Mary Brass, proved successful in their games. In the Second Division, Clitheroe B

returned to winning ways with a 13-3 victo ry over fellow promotion challengers Abacus A. The victory could have been even more comprehensive as one of the games was lost due to the late arrival of a Clitheroe player. Pete Woods and Sheila Perry continued

their 100% record as a mixed doubles part nership and the ladies' pairs of Julie Pym, playing with Liz Mastell, and Sheila Perry partnered with Jane MacEwan, produced four solid victories. However, despite a team strengthening

exercise Clitheroe's C team were over whelmed by St Philip's in a 16-0 crushing defeat. Damien Evans and Diana Hall proved the strongest pairing with a narrow 15-14 defeat in one of the mixed matches, to complete a very one sided competition.

IN the East Lancashire Table Tennis League premiership Allspeeds were left reeling as Dave Kay won all his matches to see Attackers defeat the engineers 19- 14. ‘ Royal Mail are the team in form as they

crushed Old Masters 28-7, Keith Lee and Matt Harrison the unbeaten duo. Buraccs had a comfortable 30-9 win

over luckless Old Masters, Phil Blake, Barry Hall and ageless Bernard Cain the winning trio. Ramsbottom B visited Standen Hall

and won 22-18 Derek Buckley and Fiery Phil Holmes the Rams stars on the night. Champions Ramsbottom A played

East Lancs and won 25-12 Graham Hoy and Dave Newton preserving their 100%

records. Ashley Bradbury continues to impress

as Mixed just took the spoils defeating Haslingden C 24-15. Marsden look real contenders for the

First Division title after easing their way past Ramsbottom C 29-11, Peter Wood and Geoff Ireland the unbeaten duo. Frank Rowland won all his matches as Piolax had a close 23-17 win over Temple Street.

In the Second Division Ian Robinson

was the star player as his side Tek-Neek defeated SAS 22-17, Geoff English win ning two games for the losers. TCJ played host to Shahsmen in the

Third Division and lost 23-13. Whalley who are finding it difficult in a

higher division, lost to Spindoctors 27-8. New Era look to be heading for the

Fourth Division title as they crushed Burnley Boys’ Club 30-5. The Boys’ Club then defeated newcom

ers Barden School 30-9. New team Pollards took the honours

25-15 against Tridents. The town teams have all had excellent

starts to the season with the first team winning both their opening matches, the latest being a 9-1 home win over Trafford, Keith Jackson, Keith Ward and Graham Hoy the representative side. The second team defeated Tameside 10-

0 in their opening game and then were vic torious 10-0 against opponents Oldham B, Roger Whewell, John Thornber, Matt Nettleton and Stuart Thompson being the players representing East Lancashire in both matches.

17 - Rushton Street Bowling Club annual meeting, Rush- ton Street Club, 7 p.m.

Buck 14, Royal Oak 7; The Black Bull 7, Billington Band Leaders held

Chatburn....................................3 Carleton......................................3 LEAGUE leaders Chatburn might feel that it was two points dropped rather than one gained in a game which they had maintained com plete control, gifted three goals to a confident Carleton and were then forced to battle back for a draw. Chatbum started the brighter side

and and it came as no surprise when Newton opened the scoring for the locals after Rung produced a fine run and delivery of ball from the left wing. But this slim lead was short lived

as Chatburn proceeded to self destruct. Own goals from Richards and Curtis plus a needless penalty followed to give Carleton a 3-1 advantage at half-time. Carleton continued to press at the

start of the second half and against the run of play R. Sullivan rounded the away team's keeper to give Chat burn a fighting chance with 10 min utes remaining. Now in complete control chances

went a begging for locals, until Young's pinpoint cross left Newton with the simplest of headers from a yard out to level the scores. On a day when Chatburn scored

five times a draw was really not good enough and the villagers will be looking to rectify this in their next game against Craven and District Premier League side Crosshills on Saturday November 22nd.

Poor show

Bronte Wanderers ................... 3’ Grindlelon ............................... 5 Grindleton produces another slug gish performance this weekend. Grindleton took the lead with a

Shaun Lloyd goal after five minutes. Bronte equalised 10 minutes later

with a well taken goal which spurred Grindleton into action. Lloyd was to claim his second

after some good passing from Cowey and Dobson, he then claimed his hat-trick with a sublime chip with the outside of his boot from the edge of the area. The second half looked like it was

going to be all Grindleton but Bronte had other ideas and put

Grindleton under pressure. A Scott Fielding penalty but

Grindleton 4-1 up. It looked like it was enough until

Bronte scored two goals in 10 min utes, and at 3-4 it could have gone either way until Martin Dobson went on a run down the left and smartly finished past the keeper. That was just enough to knock

the stuffing out of Bronte and see Grindleton continue the unbeaten run.

Reserves win

Grindleton Reserves.............. 3 Silsden ......................................0 GRINDLETON'S improving form continued on Saturday in their Craven and District second division

encounter against Silsden. Bennett opened the scoring for the

home side after 15 minutes and then shortly after, Docherty added a sec ond with a powerful header from a corner. The locals continued to dominate

the game and Bennett scored his sec ond and Grindleton's third and final strike of the game before half-time. After the break the home side

toned down their game and allowed Silsden the odd chance at goal, but the Grindleton defence held firm to keep the score at 3-0. Man of the match was awarded to

Crindleton left back Moore. This was Grindleton Reserves

first clean sheet since April 2002. If this commitment from the whole team continues then they should soon pull clear of the relegation zone.
