Alex scores twice in Readstone cup win
READSTONE United Under 9s progressed to the semi-finals of the cup with a 2-0 victory over Brierfield Celtic. Alex Judge bagged both goals and Ben Free man won the man of the match accolade. The Under 9s also
played Pendle Forest in a league game and were trail ing 2-0 at half-time, only to turn the game in the sec ond half and win 3-2. A brace from Mark
Turner and a third from Lewis Turner sealed the game while the man of the match accolade was again bestowed upon Ben Free
man. In the Accrington league
Readstone Under 10s had an excellent 2-2 draw with top of the table St Joseph's. A las t minute header
from Matthew Shirtcliffe drew the scores level after Michael Cox opened Unit ed's account. Man of the match was awarded to Darryl Holland. In the first of two games
Readstone Under 10s Blue lost 1-0 to Trawden and Nathan Hindle was named man of the match.
The United Under 10s
Blue team then managed a 1-1 draw with Whalley Juniors. Drew Bramley scored the goal and Hindle was again named man of the match. Readstone Under 11
Girls recorded an excellent 4-1 victory over Barnoldswick Town. Goals came in the form
of an Alisha Cryer brace and one apiece from Sophie Hindle and Abigail Sed- don. Gabby Preugschat was named player of the match. Four goals apiece for
player of the match Louise Meloy and Sarah Walker saw Readstone Under 13 Girls Yellow well on the way to an emphatic 11-0 victory over Oswaldtwistle Rangers. Further goals came from
Rachel Walker (2) and Jade Bolton. In a thrilling game of
football, Readstone United Under 13 Girls Blue rose to the challenge and managed to record a narrow 4-3 win over Wilpshire Wanderers. A brace from Alice Holmes and one apiece
from Emily Crake and Jenna Birkett secured vic tory. But in their second game
of the week the same Unit ed side were knocked out of the cup in a heavy 3-0 defeat to Thornton. They competed well in
the first half but ran out of steam in the second to con cede all three goals. Melis sa Clegg was named man of the match. ' A brace from man of the
match Sam Langford maintained the Under 11s unbeaten start to the sea son. The striker's prowess in
front of goal ensured a competent 2-0 victory over Wilpshire Wanderers. Readstone United Under
14s also held onto their unbeaten tag after narrow ly avoiding defeat a t the hands of Great Harwood Rovers with a well earned 1-1 draw. Louis Laviscount was
the saviour of the title with a last minute equaliser to share the points, while the man of the match accolade went to Lewis Gray.

Attacked partner after night out
A CLITHEROE man subject ed his partner to a prolonged and brutal attack after they returned home from a night out. Blackburn m ag is tra te s heard
th a t Aaron Robert Adamson (25) waited until his girlfriend’s mother, who had been b a b y s i t t in g , le f t before lau n ch in g a ferocious assault. He punched Leanne Bond repeat
edly in the face and pulled her hair and when she said she needed to go and see to their eight-month-old baby, who had started crying, he said no and punched her again. Miss Bond managed to get
upstairs to her child and while she was holding it he punched her in the face a further six times before drag ging her around the bed by her hair. Miss Silvia Dacre (prosecuting)
said Miss Bond shouted a t him to' stop because of the baby, but he said that did not matter. “He spat in her face and refused to
let her leave the room when she said she needed to go to the toilet,” said Miss Dacre. “He then made her sign a letter
which purported to sign the child over to him.” Miss Dacre said that eventually Adamson fell asleep and Miss Bond
’was able to escape with the child. “She ran to her mother’s wearing
only her underwear she was so des perate to get away,” she said. Adamson, of Whalley Road,
Clitheroe, pleaded guilty to assault. He was made subject to a communi ty rehabilitation order for 12 months and ordered to pay £50 costs. Miss Dacre said that when inter

Bereavement group filling large demand
A NEW social group for Ribble Valley bereaved has met for the first time this month. Following the continued
success of the Ribble Val ley Bereavement Support Group, the new group is seen to be filling a large demand. The group is aimed a t
providing the chance for bereaved people, to get together and socialise with a friendly, understanding group of like minded peo ple. The aim is to initially,
meet for a drink, snack or meal in a relaxed situation but with a view to, in time, expanding its activities to include theatre trips, days out and possibly holidays.

Whalley beaten
WHALLEY Juniors Under 15s suffered a 7-0 defeat a t the hands of Fulledge Colts. This was a game of two
halves for Whalley., In a diabolical first half,
Fulledge attacked continu ously. Whalley were non-exis
tent as a team, only a fine display by goalkeeper Rick O’Connor together with poor finishing by Fulledge kept the score to five a t half time. , After the half-time dis cussion, Whalley came out a different team, pressing th e ir opponents and attacking the ball. Whalley were unlucky
not to score on three occa sions but it was Fulledge who increased their lead with two more goals.
Roefield showing improved form Roefield Leisure Junior s ...........1
Rishton Vtd B lu e ........... ...3 ROEFIELD went into this match on the back of two heavy defeats. They had a full strength squad
from which to select and the defence looked better for it. During the first 10 minutes both
teams had plenty of play with Jacks Gaffney and Excel working the ball well out of defence for Roefield. Unfortunately Rishton were the first to score and added a second goal
just five minutes later. Keeper Shepherd had less to do
than in previous weeks but pulled off some fine saves. Roefield refused to lie down and Parker and Bilbie both put chances wide. In the second half Roefield contin
ued tp fight and as pressure was put on Rishton’s defence the chances came more often. The introduction of Duerden on
the left wing was an excellent move as his crosses provided opportunities
for Bilbie and Colley. Rishton were lucky to get a third
from a wayward strike that looped into the net. Roefield pulled one back from a
move between Duerden and Bilbie and Parker put the rebound into the net. The Rishton keeper was forced into several more saves but Roefield were unable to score again. This was a much b e t te r and
encouraging performance from Roe field.
