TEACHERS, children, parents and council officials turned out in force to celebrate the grand opening of a brand new junior block at Moorland School. A well-attended special ceremony to mark
the event was held at the school on Thurs day, with th e presence of Ribble Valley Mayor, Coun. Alan Yearing, and Clitheroe Town Council Mayor and Mayoress, Coun, Joan Knight and Mrs Helen Ashworth. After weeks of intensive construction, the
new unit is spectacular with decorative sur roundings offering six new classrooms and a big assembly hall. Commenting on the new state-of-the-art block, principal, Mr Paul Smith explained: “As boarding numbers have doubled recently, we have had to move junior classrooms from the main building into the new block, to make room for more boarders.” The school, which is bordered on one side by
the River Ribble and by the majestic Pendle Hill, offers a warm welcome to children aged four to 16, not mentioning the successful nurs ery and baby unit. “This is a great little school with pupils from
different
backgrounds. In terms of sport, it is a very active school as we have a full-time PE teacher and a full time Manchester United football coach on site all the time,” added Mr Smith. Speaking on the opening, Coun. Yearing
said: “The new unit will provide more facili ties, more space and a lot more opportunities for the students to develop their true poten
tial.” The special occasion was followed by an
Advent concert and the junior students' prize giving ceremony. Our picture shows Coun. Yearing, Coun.
Knight, Mrs Ashworth, Mr Smith and junior students delighted with the new unit. (B041203/3)
