Christmas market attracted hundreds of shoppers!

HUNDREDS of shoppers converged on Clitheroe on Sunday for the second annual


Christmas Market. On a clear and crisp winter’s day, the festive fair


was a bustling hive of activity, with seasonal craft stalls doing a brisk trade alongside the regular mar­


ket traders. Hot roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, sizzling


sausages and baked potatoes were all in demand, while those seeking a haven from the cold could find it in Jimmy Clitheroe’s cafe. And visitors who came for the market also found


many more attractions when strolling into town. Sev­ eral of Clitheroe’s shops had opened especially for the day, helping to boost the festive event. Special attractions at the Christmas market includ­


ed a fascinating birds of prey display, plus fire eaters, jugglers and other street entertainers. Among the visitors were Ribble Valley MP Nigel


Evans and the borough’s mayor, Coun. Alan Yearing. Many of the shoppers came on the Santa Special


trains, run by First North Western Trains and bringing visitors from as far as Manchester and Blackburn. The seasonal event was a credit to its hard-working


organisers, Ray and Amanda Barker, and their team. It proved once again that, even on the coldest days, Clitheroe has the warmest welcome.
