IT may be a little later in the month than usual, but Clitheroe’s Christmas shopping event could be a last-minute life-saver.

port throughout the year and there will be music throughout the town as Clitheroe Town Band goes walkabout. Bolton-by-Bowland Primary School chil
dren will be demonstrating their bellringing skills between 5-30 p.m. and 6 p.m. and young choristers from St James' CE Prima ry School will be serenading with carols galore. Once again, children will be encouraged to
take part in their own special competition with monetary prizes on offer for the win ning schools. Liz Goodall, proprietor of Clitheroe
Music, has again been busy - this year plac ing stars in shop windows for the schools' treasure hunt. Local traders have donated hundreds of
pounds to ensure that the competition is worthwhile. The children have to look for designated
shops and state how many stars, between one and four, are in each window. The school returning the most winning entries will receive the first prize, and the next, the run ner-up. The cash prizes will be presented to the winning schools by the Mayor in Janu ary. The star-spangled treasure hunt starts on
Thursday night and finishes on January 9th. So, whatever you planned to do next Thursday night cancel it! Come into Clitheroe, support your local traders and take a good look at what we'have on offer right here on our own rather special doorstep.

•CLITHEROE is set to twinkle as rarely before in what promises to be a glit tering Christmas. Icicles are already dan
gling from many shop fronts throughout the town - thanks to Clitheroe and District Chamber of Trade and Commerce. For years and years, the
argument over Christmas lights has raged, dominat ing much of the festive sea-
son. This year, peace should
prevail. Clitheroe Town Council
has already ensured that trees have been erected from special brackets above shops, large overhead Christmas displays domi nate the town centre, the crib is in situ safe within its own conservatory-style frame and large trees mark the top and bottom of Cas tle Street. The icicles, it could be said, really are the icing on the cakel The chamber has decid
ed to provide all its mem bers with a free set of out door lights on the under standing th a t they are utilised at business premis es and tha t they are switched on! It is a grand gesture and one much appreciated by traders, their customers, residents and visitors to the town. And, additional sets of
lights for members' homes or neighbouring non-mem ber traders are available from the chamber or from Jean Jackson at Clitheroe Lighting Centre in Moor Lane.
lights are in the throes of being distributed and with Santa set to bring more vis itors into town this week end and next- and, of course, Clitheroe's special late-night shopping extrav aganza on December 18th, at last Clitheroe is fighting back.

X ite Amazing array of shops - and they keep on getting better
WHY should anyone choose to do their Christmas shopping in Clitheroe? Because it really is a special place. Given the size of the town, Clitheroe
has an amazing array of shops - and they keep on getting betterl . There are plenty of places offering the

have waxed lyrical about them time and time again - but we also have an increasing number of family-owned retailers with an eye for something new and, between them, they spice up our attractive array of streets. Here traders care about their shops,

not a problem - and it remains cheap. The town's Chester Avenue car park, with its excellent access to the Inter change, has recently been awarded a
Secure by Design award. Other car parks are handily situated for whichever end of the town you wish to visit. If you fancy a bite to eat, then
Clitheroe has a growing number of eateries with prices to suit every pock et. Many are offering Christmas menus and will be open next Thursday night to make your late-night shopping experi ence complete.
