YOUNGSTERS from a small rural primary school have been busy this week dressing up as cows, swans, geese, milk maids - and many more characters - as they staged their Christ mas production. There was a full house watching pupils from Bolton-by-Bowland school on Monday, as

they took to the stage to perform the famous festive play “The 12 Days of Christmas”. Commenting on the performance, head

teacher, Mrs Marilynne Ashmore said: “All the children worked extremely hard and put a lot of effort into the play. “Staff were busy for weeks organising every

body and preparing the costumes, which are outstanding.. “Both children and staff enjoyed the

rehearsals, which they found quite funny.” Our picture shows pupils ready to perform their festive season.

Pupils in village lantern parade

CHILDREN at Brabins Endowed School, Chipping, were to take part in a procession of light with a bird theme through the village last night. The children made bird lanterns in a

series of workshops with community artist Steve Elliot. The project was designed to build on work the school had already been doing about the special birds of the area. The pupils were to lead a pro cession of light with their lanterns through Chipping village, after perform ing their Christmas production. “The lantern procession is a fun way of

celebrating how special the Forest of Bowland is for birds,” said Lucy Barron, from the RSPB’s Birds of Bowland pro ject, earlier this week. The procession was organised by the

Birds of Bowland project and Ribble Val ley Borough Council arts department and supported by LAND, a programme of education and creative arts inspired by East Lancashire’s stunning landscape and environment. Pictured (left to right) are Rachel

Airey, Hayley Jarvis, Hannah Fogden, Henry Hamlet and William Pye with their bird lanterns. (G271103/lb)

Mayor’s Christmas event raises over £200 for charity

JUST over £200 was raised for two worthwhile causes at the Ribble Valley Mayor’s Christmas coffee morning. The money from the

event will go to the two chosen charities of the Mayor of the Ribble Valley, Coun. Alan Yearing - the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Dyslexic Associa tion.

There were a number of

stalls at the event, includ ing ones selling cakes, Christmas cards and gift paper, as well as a bottle and jar tombola and a raf fle.

The refreshments were

provided by Coun. Bever ley Jones, along with her dedicated band of helpers. Our picture shows the

Mayor and the Mayoress, Mrs Susan Yearing, plus guests at the event, held in the Ribble Valley Council Chamber. (C291103/1)
